Professor Hua Zhang, Herman Hu Chair Professor of Nanomaterials from CityUHK's Department of Chemistry and the Director of the Hong Kong Institute for Clean Energy, has secured HK$39.64 million grants under the Research Grants Council’s (RGC) Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS). He will be leading the five-year project titled “Novel Unconventional Cu-based Catalysts for CO₂ Conversion towards Scalable Production of Value-added Chemicals”, which focuses on frontier developments in green technology and clean energy. 香港城市大學物理學系講座教授王循理教授領導的一個五年期研究項目，早前獲研究資助局的「卓越學科領域計劃」撥款5,000萬港元！王教授的團隊將會聯合本港其他大學，在香港建立一個全球頂尖的中子散射研究平台——「香港中子散射中心」。恭喜王教授!

The 5-year project led by Professor Xun-li Wang, Chair Professor in CityUHK’s Department of Physics, received HK$50 million under Research Grants Council’s (RGC) Areas of Excellence (AoE) Scheme to establish the Hong Kong Centre for Neutron Scattering (HKCNS), a world’s premier neutron scattering research platform based at CityUHK in collaboration with other local universities. Congratulations, Professor Wang!!

二十多位中學生7月參加了由城大理學院舉辦的「明日之星科學營 2026」，短短五天透過課堂、實驗室實踐及校園住宿體驗等完成了大學速成班! 希望科學營能激發大家對科學特別是理學院轄下化學、數學和物理三科的好奇心。一齊回顧那五天的黃金畫面！

More than 20 secondary school students had a taste of being a university student at the Rising STARs Science Camp 2026, a 5-day summer programme organised by the College of Science (CSCI) in July. “STARs” stands for Science, Technology, AI, Research and Sharing. The camp aimed to spark curiosity in science, especially the three disciplines within CSCI: Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on laboratory activities, and residential experience, these secondary school students gained intensive exposure to university study within 5 days. Here recaps their journey!

Professor Chun Kit Kwok, Associate Dean (Outreach and Internationalisation) of CityUHK’s College of Science and Professor from the Department of Chemistry, was named a Fellow Member of the prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry in July 2026. This honour is conferred on individuals who make outstanding contributions to the chemical sciences. Congratulations to Professor Kwok!

城大理學院物理學系講座教授王循理教授，榮獲中國工程院頒發第十六屆光華工程科技獎，以表彰他多年來在中子散射技術、金屬材料與工程領域的科研成就，以及推動世界大型科研設施包括中國散裂中子源的建設和應用方面作出的重要貢獻。光華工程科技獎是中國國家級工程科技界最具影響力的獎項之一，恭喜王教授！

Professor Xunli Wang from CityUHK’s Department of Physics is awarded the 16th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award — one of the most prestigious national awards in engineering — for his outstanding contributions to materials science and neutron scattering, for example in advancing the China Spallation Neutron Source. Congratulations to Professor Wang!
