The call for abstracts is now open for the 46th Annual International Nursing and Midwifery Research and Education Conference, taking place on 24–25 February 2027.

We invite nurses, midwives, researchers, educators and healthcare professionals to begin preparing their submissions. While the abstract submission portal will open soon, all of the conference themes and abstract guidance are now available to help you start developing your abstract.

This year's conference theme is: Advocating for equity: Nursing and midwifery leadership ensuring access to person-centred integrated care

Abstracts are invited under the following sub-themes:

🔹 Equity, diversity and inclusion in healthcare access

Climate change is causing more frequent and severe extreme weather events, such as heatwaves, floods and heavy rainfall, with growing impacts on people's health around the world.

A new global systematic review, co-authored by Professor Mary Lynch from the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, and WEATHER PROJECT-UKZN examined how artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning can help predict the health effects of these extreme weather events.

The review found that while these technologies show promise for improving early warning systems and helping health services prepare for climate-related health risks, there are still important gaps. Most existing research focuses on heatwaves, with very little evidence on the health impacts of flooding. The study also highlights the need for better data from low- and middle-income countries to ensure these prediction tools are accurate and can be used worldwide.

These findings underline the importance of investing in more inclusive, reliable climate-health research to better protect communities as the effects of climate change continue to grow.

Open to all Fellows and Members of the Faculty, this scholarship offers an exciting opportunity for nurses and midwives to advance their research careers and contribute to improving healthcare practice and patient outcomes.

Each scholarship will cover fees of up to €12,000 per year for a maximum of five years of full-time study, or on a pro-rata basis for up to seven years of part-time study.
