🎓 Projekt wzmacniający bezpieczeństwo doktorantów przeszedł przez Stały Komitet Rady Ministrów!

To ważny krok w stronę lepszej ochrony i większego bezpieczeństwa doktorantów.

Projekt zakłada m.in.:
🔹 możliwość zawieszenia kształcenia z powodów innych niż rodzicielstwo – do 12 miesięcy,
🔹 objęcie doktorantów ubezpieczeniem chorobowym i dostęp do świadczeń z tego tytułu,
🔹 możliwość korzystania z infrastruktury badawczej i informatycznej także po ukończeniu szkoły doktorskiej – do czasu obrony doktoratu.

To ważny krok, ale warto podkreślić, że takie rozwiązania nie pojawiły się same. W ich wypracowanie i nagłośnienie problemów mieli swój udział członkowie Samorządu Doktorantów, którzy konsekwentnie reprezentowali potrzeby doktorantów i zabiegali o konkretne zmiany.

Szczególne podziękowania kierujemy do ministry Karolina Zioło-Pużuk za zaangażowanie w tę sprawę, otwartość na dialog oraz spotkania z naszymi przedstawicielami, podczas których mogliśmy przedstawiać problemy i proponować rozwiązania ważne dla doktorantów.

Głos doktorantów ma znaczenie. 💪🎓

🎓 The project strengthening doctoral students’ security has passed the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers!

This is an important step towards better protection and greater security for doctoral researchers. The project includes, among other things:
🔹 the possibility of suspending doctoral education for reasons other than parenthood – for up to 12 months,
🔹 sickness insurance coverage for doctoral researchers and access to related benefits,
🔹 the possibility of using research and IT infrastructure after completing a doctoral school – until the defence of the doctoral dissertation.

This is an important step, but it is worth emphasizing that these solutions did not come about on their own. Members of the PhD Students’ Union played an important role in developing these solutions and highlighting the challenges faced by doctoral researchers, consistently representing their needs and advocating for concrete changes.

Special thanks go to Minister Karolina Zioło-Pużuk for her commitment to this issue, openness to dialogue, and meetings with our representatives, during which we were able to present the problems and propose solutions that matter to doctoral researchers.

The voice of doctoral researchers matters. 💪🎓

Większe bezpieczeństwo doktorantów – ważny krok naprzód! 🎓

Projekt zmian wzmacniających ochronę doktorantów przeszedł przez Stały Komitet Rady Ministrów.

Najważniejsze propozycje to:
🔹 obowiązkowe ubezpieczenie chorobowe i dostęp do świadczeń,
🔹 możliwość zawieszenia kształcenia w uzasadnionych sytuacjach życiowych,
🔹 większe wsparcie dla doktorantów-rodziców,
🔹 bezpłatny dostęp do infrastruktury uczelni po ukończeniu szkoły doktorskiej – aż do obrony.

To ważny krok w stronę większej stabilności i bezpieczeństwa doktorantów oraz możliwości łączenia kariery naukowej z życiem prywatnym.

Greater protection for PhD candidates – an important step forward! 🎓

A draft bill strengthening the protection of PhD candidates has passed the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers.

Key proposed changes include:
🔹 mandatory sickness insurance and access to benefits,
🔹 the possibility of suspending doctoral education in justified life circumstances,
🔹 greater support for PhD candidates who are parents,
🔹 free access to university research and IT infrastructure after completing doctoral school, until the PhD defence.

This is an important step towards greater stability and security for PhD candidates, while making it easier to combine academic careers with personal and family life.

✅Projekt wzmacniający bezpieczeństwo doktorantów właśnie przeszedł przez Stały Komitet Rady Ministrów!

Główny cel zmian jest prosty: dać doktorantom większą stabilność i pewność, że choroba, rodzicielstwo lub inne zdarzenia losowe nie przekreślą ich pracy naukowej.

🔹 Większe bezpieczeństwo w przypadku choroby i wypadku
Doktoranci zostaną objęci obowiązkowym ubezpieczeniem chorobowym i zyskają realny dostęp do świadczeń w przypadku choroby, wypadku czy rodzicielstwa. Dziś ochrona ubezpieczeniowa doktorantów nie odpowiada w pełni ryzykom, z którymi mierzą się na co dzień.

🔹 Elastyczne zawieszenie kształcenia
Projekt umożliwia zawieszenie kształcenia nie tylko z powodów związanych z rodzicielstwem, ale również w innych uzasadnionych sytuacjach życiowych. Zawieszenie będzie oznaczało zatrzymanie biegu najważniejszych terminów związanych z kształceniem, w tym dotyczących oceny śródokresowej czy złożenia rozprawy doktorskiej.

🔹 Lepsze wsparcie dla rodziców
Doktoranci sprawujący osobistą opiekę nad dzieckiem otrzymają rozwiązania odpowiadające ochronie, jaką w przypadku pracowników zapewnia urlop wychowawczy, przy jednoczesnym uwzględnieniu specyfiki statusu doktoranta.
To kolejny krok w kierunku tego, aby rozwój naukowy nie oznaczał konieczności odkładania planów rodzinnych.

🔹 Ciągłość pracy naukowej po ukończeniu szkoły doktorskiej
Osoby, które ukończyły szkołę doktorską i przygotowują się do obrony, zachowają bezpłatny dostęp do infrastruktury badawczej i informatycznej uczelni aż do zakończenia postępowania doktorskiego.
Dzięki temu zakończenie kształcenia nie będzie oznaczało utraty narzędzi niezbędnych do finalizacji badań i obrony doktoratu.

📚 Rozpoczynacie swoją drogę w szkołach doktorskich UW? Przed Wami dwa wydarzenia, które pomogą dobrze wejść w nowy etap!

💙 „Dobry początek” (5–6 października) to program wdrożeniowy dla osób rozpoczynających kształcenie. W planie znajdują się spotkania informacyjne i szkolenia, dzięki którym poznacie możliwości, jakie Uniwersytet Warszawski oferuje młodym naukowcom, a także przygotujecie się do prowadzenia badań i życia akademickiego.
🗓️ Rejestracja na szkolenia rozpocznie się 14 września.

🏕️ Kolejnym krokiem będzie PhD Camp (6–8 listopada) – wyjazd szkoleniowo-integracyjny do Europejskiego Centrum Edukacji Geologicznej w Chęcinach. To okazja do rozwijania kompetencji potrzebnych w pracy naukowej, wymiany doświadczeń i poznania doktorantek oraz doktorantów z innych szkół doktorskich UW.

📚 Are you starting your journey at the UW Doctoral Schools? Two upcoming events will help you begin this new stage on the right foot!

💙 “A Good Start” (5–6 October) is an onboarding programme for new doctoral candidates. It includes information sessions and training workshops designed to introduce you to the opportunities the University of Warsaw offers young researchers, as well as to prepare you for conducting research and academic life.

🗓️ Registration for the workshops will open on 14 September.

🏕️ The next step will be the PhD Camp (6–8 November) – a training and integration trip to the European Centre for Geological Education in Chęciny. It is a great opportunity to develop key research skills, exchange experiences, and meet doctoral candidates from other UW doctoral schools.

🗓️ Registration for the PhD Camp will open on 7 October.

Meet our speakers

👩‍⚖️ Ewelina Tomczyk is a lawyer, PhD candidate in Civil Procedure, and Research Assistant at the University of Wrocław. She specialises in higher education law and has extensive experience delivering training in English on the rights and responsibilities of doctoral candidates. A recipient of the Fulbright Junior Research Award 2026–2027, she has conducted research at leading European universities, including King's College London, Humboldt University of Berlin, Paris Lodron University Salzburg, Maynooth University and the University of Limerick.

👨‍🎓 Jakub Zielonka, MSc Eng. is a PhD candidate at the Cracow University of Technology and a member of the expert team of the Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates responsible for the evaluation of doctoral schools. For many years, he has actively supported doctoral education in Poland through training activities, academic projects and initiatives dedicated to doctoral candidates, combining extensive practical experience with a deep understanding of the doctoral education system.

💻 All training sessions will be conducted online, in English, and participation is completely free of charge.

The training series is organised as part of the Academia Law Hub project, co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education under the programme "Organising and Promoting Activities for the Academic Community." The project aims to strengthen the legal awareness of international students and doctoral candidates studying in Poland by providing practical, accessible and expert-led educational activities.

Spotkanie informacyjne dotyczące ubiegania się o miejsce w akademiku

Biuro ds. Pomocy Materialnej Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego organizuje spotkania online dla osób rozpoczynających studia lub kształcenie w szkołach doktorskich na UW w roku akademickim 2026/2027. Podczas wydarzeń uczestnicy poznają najważniejsze informacje dotyczące zasad ubiegania się o miejsce w domu studenckim, wymaganych dokumentów oraz obowiązujących terminów.

Przypominamy, że II tura ubiegania się o miejsce w domu studenckim rozpocznie się 3 sierpnia i potrwa do 19 sierpnia 2026 roku.

Terminy spotkań:
🔵 7 sierpnia 2026 r., godz. 11.00 – spotkanie w języku polskim;
🔵 7 sierpnia 2026 r., godz. 13.00 – spotkanie w języku angielskim.

Information Session on Applying for a Place in a Student Dormitory

The Student Financial Aid Office of the University of Warsaw is organizing online information sessions for students beginning their studies or doctoral education at the University of Warsaw in the 2026/2027 academic year. During these sessions, participants will learn about the key rules for applying for accommodation in a student dormitory, the required documents, and the application deadlines.

Please note that the second round of dormitory applications will begin on 3 August and will remain open until 19 August 2026.

Session dates:

🔵 7 August 2026, 1:00 p.m. – session in English

Participation requires prior registration, and the number of places is limited.
