Elena Andrei studied painting at the University of Arts in Bucharest, class of Professor Sorin Ilfoveanu and has a master's degree in Visual Arts at the same university. She works in environments such as painting, graphics, porcelain and ceramics. Building her art on solid documentation, she uses different techniques and tools to convey a deeply feminist and mystical questioning. The focal point o
f her research is the human being, the human fabric from its surface towards the depths of the being, beyond masks and mirrors. The symbolic or mythical layer surrounding the beings is a recurrent theme that returns time and again in the art of Elena Andrei. She has participated in several solo or group exhibitions. Among the personal exhibitions we mention Faces of matter, Eckhaus Gallery (Kutztown, PA, USA, 2010), The allegory of the five senses, Estudio Luna Gallery (Winnipeg, Canada, 2010), Mystical Fabric, Dana Art Gallery (Bucharest, 2017), Forgotten places in my heart, ARTHUB (Bucharest, 2022), Beautiful Chaos, A1 Gallery (Aalter, Belgia, 2023) and among the group ones - COLOPHON, Palazzo Correr (Venice, 2008), LA FUNK LA FREAK, Torre Civica (Mestre, 2008), A sangue fredo, Palazzo Correr (Venice , 2007). In 2019 she participates in the group exhibition Perspectives and anatomy of feminine art 1977-1987. In 2021, she participates in Art Safari 2021, the Contemporary Art Pavilion and at the ZENIT exhibition with the ARTHUB collective (Sala Acvariu, MȚR). In 2022, she participates in the multimedia group exhibition Ore Albastre (ARTHUB), the group exhibitions Urban Poems (ARTHUB), Vulnerabilia (Pop-Up Giulești by ARTHUB). In 2023, she participates among others in the group exhibitions Botanica. The living room collection (Grădina ArtHub), the multimedia exhibition Prea Târziu (ARTHUB), at the MOBU Art Fair (Romaero Băneasa), Gestures and Bubuieli with the artist Bogdan Andronic (Calea Victoriei no. 91-93 Gallery). In 2024, she participates in the group exhibitions 21 de grams of soul (The center for Visual Arts), the launching of the Haute Couture Loly by Zita Moldovan (TAPASTICK), MOBU Art Fair second edition (Romexpo), HORA.URME.CERC (Alert Studio), Until death do us part (The Institute). In 2011, she established the porcelain studio Istoriato – The Alchemy of Dreams. Between 2017 and 2023 she was a member of ARTHUB Bucharest, and since 2010 she has been a member of U.A.P. She has works in private collections in America, Canada, Italy, Belgium, Romania. In 2019 she created a painting for Pope Francis, a work that is now part of Vatican's collection.
