Congratulations to our sister, Elizabeth Daniels!

Elizabeth has been awarded an Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness (ISPB) Eye Research Grant to support her doctoral research on age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Working in the Susan Leggett Lab as a Bioengineering PHD student, Elizabeth is developing biomimetic models to better understand how mechanical cues contribute to retinal pigment epithelium dysfunction associated with AMD.

Elizabeth is the first University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign student to receive this prestigious grant!

Regina Crider
Target 2: Empower Our Families

A passionate advocate for youth, families, and mental health, Mrs. Crider has more than 15 years of experience helping families navigate education, mental health, and developmental disability systems. Through her work as a policy analyst, pastor, village trustee, advocate, and statewide trainer, she elevates family voices and works to create better outcomes for children and families.

Target 1: Youth Leadership and Development

The chapter equips African American youth with leadership, communication, teamwork, decision-making, and civic engagement skills. Through mentoring, college readiness, career exploration, character education, and community service, the chapter prepares young people to become confident leaders and engaged citizens.

Target 4: Uplift Our Local Community and Social Justice

Founder and Executive Director of Friend In Me, Mr. Price has dedicated his career to serving vulnerable and underserved populations. Through outreach, advocacy, and community partnerships, he helps individuals experiencing homelessness access shelter, meals, transportation, healthcare, case management, and pathways toward housing stability and self-sufficiency.

Each honoree demonstrates the power of service, leadership, and compassion to create lasting community impact.
