As part of the Center of Excellence for Next Generation and Creativity, the mission of CCGT is to build a community of interdisciplinary geospatial science practitioners through the support of research, teaching, and outreach activities using technologies that enable the collection, analysis, and application of geospatial data. The Center is dedicated to assisting faculty and students in the integration of geospatial technologies within their scholarly activities across all disciplines at Clemson University and building connections between academic, industrial, governmental and non-governmental institutions throughout the world. The primary home for CCGT is in the Cooper Library, where staffed collaboration and training spaces are available to all members of the Clemson community through a partnership between CCIT and the Libraries.Through this partnership CCGT strives to make resources available to the community, including training and workshops, data services for teaching and research, access to infrastructure for geospatial analysis (ranging from software licensing for GIS through high performance computing), and support for research and proposal development.

Registration is available for the CCGT GIS Academy, a five-day, hands-on program for Clemson students, faculty, and staff. Build practical geospatial skills and explore how GIS can support research, teaching, and professional practice.

Academy details
* Dates: December 14-18, 2026
* Time: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM ET daily
* Location: In person at 406A Cooper
* Capacity: 20 seats

No prior GIS experience is required. Each day pairs guided instruction in GIS principles and spatial methods with dedicated mentored studio time to work on your project.

Required for selection: Applicants must bring a current or proposed project and dataset to use during the Academy. The project must have a clear need for geospatial analysis.

We are excited to announce a special Geoambassador workshop—Building an Interactive Mapping Application with ArcGIS and ChatGPT—led by Keith Jones, GIS Supervisor at Clemson Facilities GIS. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll use live ArcGIS feature layers and ChatGPT to create an HTML map, add a layer list, legend, and popups, and build accessibility into the experience right from the start. Where has the time gone? It’s week five and our final workshop of our Fall 2026 GIS Fundamentals Workshop Series! In this last workshop, we’ll cover Interactive Maps, Dashboards, and StoryMaps, showing how you can take the maps you’ve made throughout this series and share them in data-centric or narrative formats. We can’t wait to see you all this Friday at 9:00AM!

We’re over halfway through the Fall 2026 GIS Fundamentals Workshop Series, and its time to take our mapping out into the real world! This week, we’ll explore methods to capture geospatial field data either through a shareable survey or through a map-based mobile app and bring that into your maps in ArcGIS Online.
