🎓 Master's Monday Spotlight

Each Monday, The Graduate School visits a different area of campus to connect with students and share information about graduate education opportunities.

☕ Spill the Tea on Graduate Research

A special thank you to Dr. Andrea Bergstrom and Dr. Stephen Borders for participating in our second Spill the Tea on Graduate Research session.

Dr. Borders presented "Existing Data, Mapped: What Dashboards Can Do with Datasets Someone Else Already Collected," while Dr. Bergstrom shared insights through "Launching the Study of Communication Theory."

We are grateful for the time, knowledge, and thoughtful discussion they brought to the series. Programs like Spill the Tea on Graduate Research help create opportunities for faculty and students to engage in conversations about research methods, scholarship, and the research process across disciplines.

We thank our presenters for helping us launch this new initiative, and look forward to continuing the series, on Nov. 4 from 10 - 11 a.m., in Bryan Information Commons room 234, with presentations by Dr. Ina Seethaler, Dr. James Ndone, and Dr. Linsay Cramer.🎓

Master's students, Lara Gonzalez, Joe Haun, Elizabeth Li, Connor Huntley, and Caleb Sease, in the Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies program recently demonstrated how weather balloons are deployed and used to record measurements in the atmosphere, at STEM Day hosted by the Gupta College of Science and Engineering.

More than 140 students from 11 area high schools, including, Conway High School, Green Sea-Floyds High School, and the Academy for Arts, Sciences and Technology, among others attended STEM Day, introducing students to STEM related research and career fields.

Master’s Monday spotlight: M.S. in Sport Management 🎓

Today’s Master’s Monday took us to Penny Hall, so we’re putting the spotlight on a graduate program from the Conway Medical Center College of Health and Human Performance.

The M.S. in Sport Management offers students an opportunity to take their interest in sport to the graduate level while preparing for the next step in their professional journey.

Yesterday, Dr. Fredanna McGough, interim dean of The Graduate School, participated in the Celebration of Scholarship hosted by University Libraries and The Office of Research.

The Celebration of Scholarship gives students an opportunity to explore faculty research through poster presentations and readings, connect with colleagues, and experience the innovative research happening across our campus.

Dr. McGough’s poster presentation was on her research titled Personal and Communal Responsibility to Mitigate COVID-19 Spread on a University Campus.

Published this past January, the article, co-authored by Paul E. Richardson, Lindsey R. Bell, and Michelle M. Bartley, uses the Health Belief Model (HBM) to explore how personal and communal responsibility influenced COVID-19 spread on a university campus by comparing HBM attitudes with mitigating behaviors (hand washing, face coverings. and social and physical distancing).
