Interested in travelling to Patagonia this Spring Break? 🏕

Join us for a hybrid info session and learn about our Faculty-Led Program (FLP) in southern Chile! This program is a week long and occurs during Spring Break, so it's easy to fit into your regular school schedule. Learn about recreation management, visit beautiful places, travel with OSU students and faculty, return with OSU credits!

Join the College of Forestry for “Forestry and the Transition to a Sustainable Society” with Dr. David Brand, a globally recognized leader in forestry, sustainable finance and conservation.

Formerly National Director-General of Science and Sustainable Development with the Canadian Forest Service, he later founded New Forests and led its growth into a leading global forestry and agricultural investment firm. Today, he serves as Executive Chair of Standwell Forest Investments and Director of the David Brand Foundation, advancing sustainable forestry, conservation and Indigenous land-use partnerships.

When OSU student Julia Baker wanted to study abroad in Wales, she was advised against it. But as a non-traditional student passionate about forestry and environmental governance, she refused to let self-doubt (or administrative hurdles!) stop her.

With determination—and support from the Dean’s Fund Scholarship, Gilman Scholarship, and Fund for Education Abroad—Julia spent a term at Bangor University studying natural resource management from a whole new perspective.

From exploring historic castles to comparing Welsh conservation policy with Pacific Northwest forestry, Julia’s journey across the pond proved that pushing past uncomfortable situations is where real growth happens. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿✨

Want to take your studies abroad but don't have space in your schedule to miss a term at OSU? Try a Spring Break FLP (Faculty-Led Program)! 🌎🌲

Our week-long Spring Break FLP in southern Chile is now accepting applications! Travel, hike, explore, learn, and come back from break with 3 additional credits. This is a great program for TRAL students, but all students are welcome to apply.

We are pleased to welcome visiting scholar Dr. Ercan Oktan to the College of Forestry! 🌲

An Associate Professor in Silviculture at Karadeniz Technical University (Türkiye), Dr. Oktan joins OSU to conduct postdoctoral research supported by TÜBİTAK in collaboration with Associate Professor Bogdan Strimbu. Their project focuses on integrating remote sensing data into silvicultural decision support systems to enhance post-fire restoration and afforestation efforts.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Dr. Oktan during his time with our community!

🌲 Welcome to OSU, Lutz Klein! 🌲

We’re thrilled to introduce our newest visiting scholar, Lutz Klein, joining us in the Forest Engineering, Resources, and Management (FERM) Department!

Lutz is a PhD candidate and research assistant with the Hydrology Lab at the Institute of Geography at the University of Bonn, Germany. During his three-month stay at OSU, he’ll be collaborating with Professor Catalina Segura on the “Fire-Stream” project—investigating the effects of the 2023 Lookout Wildfire on water flow paths and water quality in the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest. 💧🔥

When he’s not gathering data in the field or working on hydrological modeling, you can find Lutz biking, bouldering, or enjoying the Pacific Northwest outdoors. 🚲🧗‍♂️

Be sure to say hello if you see him around campus! Welcome to the Beaver family, Lutz! 🦫✨
