“Space is a hopping place right now,” said Donald Pettit, B.S. chemical engineering ‘78, NASA Astronaut. 🌌

There are several ongoing research collaborations between NASA and the Oregon State University College of Engineering faculty.

These projects range from studying the effects of low gravity on cell growth to understanding the tradeoff between capillarity and gravitational forces in the growth and evolution of biofilms into 3D structures.

Read more about these projects using the link in our bio.

Join us in welcoming Forrest Masters as the new Kearney Dean of the Oregon State University College of Engineering, effective July 14!

Masters comes to Oregon State from the University of Florida, where he served as interim dean of engineering and held multiple leadership roles, including founding a natural hazards engineering research facility and serving as associate dean for research and facilities.

As interim dean at UF, he led a large and dynamic college with over 12,000 students and significant research expenditures. His experience spans recruitment, faculty development, corporate engagement, fundraising, facilities planning, and more.

Masters steps into this role following the impactful tenure of Scott Ashford. Please join us in expressing our sincere appreciation to Dean Ashford for his leadership and in extending a warm Beaver welcome to Dr. Masters!

You can’t find experience like this elsewhere. 🙌

“It’s real-world industry experience, and as a sophomore, I wouldn’t have gotten the chance to do some of these things in class yet,” said Chris Ho, computer science undergraduate.

Projects like these are great examples of how the Center for Applied Systems and Software (CASS) provides real-world experiences for Oregon State students.

Thank you to the Oregon Department of Transportation for collaborating on this project!

The average annual wage in 2022 for Oregon employees in semiconductor and related device manufacturing industries was $171,750, more than twice the statewide average for all careers. But many young Oregonians are missing out on these well-paying careers because they do not know they exist.

Leaders in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University are improving and expanding educational pathways to fill this crucial workforce gap. Faculty members are working closely with industry partners and other universities to develop programs and curricula that will attract more students to the field and prepare them to enter the workforce.

Additionally, leaders are focused on revamping several integrated circuits courses with help from company partners, developing semiconductor-specific microcredentials, and expanding opportunities for veterans.
