researchers will officially be part of American history!

StoryCorps interviews with the leaders who spearheaded the university's innovative approach to COVID-19 testing and wastewater monitoring in the early days of the pandemic are now included in the The Library of Congress.

TRACE — “Team-based Rapid Assessment of Community-level Coronavirus Epidemics” — was conceived at OSU in early 2020, when the state's public health infrastructure was not yet equipped to process the volume of testing needed to understand the virus’s spread and potency.

Today, TRACE has evolved into a sustainable forecasting system for infectious diseases across Oregon, tracking and predicting seasonal epidemics of influenza, COVID, and RSV.

The new tool could have important implications for efforts to conserve declining insect populations. This includes bumblebee species, several of which have been petitioned to be listed under the Endangered Species Act.
