Have you ever thought about traveling to Sweden and Denmark? Here is your chance to do so (while earning college credit)!

May 20th - May 31st 2027

A group of students led by Dr. Caroline Bentley and Dr. M. Nicole Warehime will tour Stockholm, Sweden; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Röstånga, Sweden.

The course includes visits to local universities/research institutes, and cultural sites that highlight the connections among nature, health, and society while providing opportunities to engage with experts across disciplines. Course discussions will examine biological, social, demographic, environmental, and cultural determinants of health, encouraging students to consider how different societal approaches shape health outcomes and healthcare practices.

Christina Bejoy graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in December 2023 with a degree in Biomedical Science. During her time at UCO, she worked closely with Dr. Caroline Bentley, Biology's Pre-Health Advisor, to prepare for admission to physician assistant school.

Since graduating from UCO, Christina has achieved another significant milestone, completing the University of Oklahoma Physician Assistant Program, where she graduated cm laude. Her dedication to academic excellence and commitment to patient care have positioned her for success in the healthcare field.

Christina will begin her professional career at OU Health, where she will serve in the cardiovascular unit. Her journey reflects the impact of strong mentorship, perseverance, and a passion for improving the lives of others through medicine.

The Department of Biology is proud of Christina's accomplishments and looks forward to seeing the positive contributions she will make in cardiovascular healthcare.

Biology undergraduate, Seoyeon Kim, has been working with Assistant Professor, Dr. Joy Saxena, for almost two years on the prevalence of antibiotic resistance in Oklahoma freshwater and drinking water treatment and distribution systems. Pictured is Seoyeon presenting her research on antibiotic resistance in drinking water treatment systems at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research (NCUR). The UCO President spotted her presentation at NCUR, was impressed by her work, and featured her on the UCO Instagram. He also invited her to the UCO President’s Leadership Council Banquet to give a short talk on how research at UCO is paving the way for the success of international students at UCO. Seoyeon also received the Best Poster Award for her research during the summer as part of the OK INBRE-SURP program.

We offer lots of different research opportunities for undergraduates in the Biology Department at UCO.
