The Department of Counseling is a graduate-only department that offers two master’s degree programs with full- or part-time options, as well as a full-time Ph.D. We are currently in the midst of some exciting changes, so be sure to check back for updates!

🌟 Our latest Student Spotlight features Brendan McGurgan, Clinical Mental Health Counseling student! See Brendan’s answers to our questions below!

Q. Tell us about yourself!
A. My name is Brendan McGurgan I am a 23-year-old Filipino American in the clinical mental health counseling program. It is my 2nd year in the program and when I am not working at the CGC or working on assignments, I am spending time with my dog stormy, reading, playing games, or playing my guitar.

Q. Favorite class in the program so far?
A. My favorite class in the program has been group practicum (sorry couldn't think of anything).

Q. Population/presenting issue of interest?
A. I am interested in exploring themes of grief and loss.

Q. What’s one goal you have while you’re in the program or after you graduate?
A. My one goal in program is to explore other populations and potential interests.

Q. Favorite study snack?
A. My favorite study snack is reese's peanut butter cups.

Q. Why did you choose IUP’s counseling program?
A. I chose the IUP counseling program because I enjoy the environment and the people at IUP. I went to IUP during undergrad and loved the experiences and wanted to continue that with new staff and peers!
