Congratulations to Dana Thomann of the Department of Communication Studies at U of Iowa for earning the 2026 Hudson Prize.

Her award-winning story collection, "Erratics," is inspired by Thomann’s experience growing up on a family farm in Riverside, Iowa.

The annual literary award is presented by independent publisher Black Lawrence Press, to new, emerging, or established writers for an unpublished collection of prose or poetry.

Tutor Tuesday! Meet Iris.

I am a MA student in Linguistics, where my interests focus on additional language acquisition and East Asian languages. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to put your thoughts and ideas into writing, so as a writing tutor I love being able to aid other writers in gaining the ability to express their thoughts and ideas! Outside of the writing center and classes, I enjoy trying various crafts and watching dramas with my cat Juniper.

Tutor Tuesday! Meet Ellie.

I am studying for an MA in Music Therapy and hoping to work with children in a pediatric hospital or clinic. I began playing the bassoon in ninth grade at the recommendation of my high school band director. I also teach piano lessons to beginners. I really love helping people learn to plan out and think critically about their writing. Good planning is the first step to great writing! In my own time, I enjoy watching crime TV shows, thrifting, and baking treats.

Tutor Tuesday! Meet Marie.

I am an MFA candidate in the English Department but I've worked as a professional copywriter for software companies and wellness brands. I enjoy collaborating with students on science and tech-related projects, presentations, website copy, and other professional materials. After a decades-long hiatus from bike-riding, I've taken it up again.
