Molecular Otolaryngology and Renal Research Laboratories - MORL

Molecular Otolaryngology and Renal Research Laboratories - MORL Welcome to the Molecular Otolaryngology and Renal Research Laboratories (MORL) at the University of Iowa!

The MORL are not-for profit academic laboratories that specialize in genetic causes of hearing loss, as well as, the complementology and genetics of complement-mediated renal diseases; using translation research to drive out clinical diagnostic service. Our laboratory is composed of two divisions: The Clinical Diagnostics Division and the Research Division. The MORL Clinical Diagnostics Division i

s a non-profit academic laboratory that focuses on non-syndromic hearing loss and complement-mediated renal (kidney) disease. We provide the most accurate and comprehensive genetic testing available today for patients with non-syndromic hearing loss and/or complement-mediated renal disease. When you order testing through the MORL Clinical Diagnostics Division, your tests are completed by experts in the human genetics of deafness and complement-mediated renal disease. Prior to generating a final report, all patient results are discussed at a weekly multi-disciplinary meeting - attended by clinical experts, research scientists, bioinformaticians, human geneticists, and genetic counselors from the MORL team. This step allows us to interpret patient results in the context of the provided clinical data, and to offer clinicians a patient-specific interpretation of the results. The MORL Research Division is made up of research scientists, graduate students, and post-doctoral students who tackle novel questions relating to non-syndromic hearing loss and complement-mediated renal disease, including the development of new treatment options. Findings of direct clinical relevance are then transferred to the Clinical Diagnostics Division to ensure that healthcare providers are always offering the best possible tests to their patients. During the 20th C3G Family Conference we asked everyone to put their finger print on a painting of a tree done by MORL's own Anna Carmen. Each fingerprint on this painting is a unique personal mark from attendees, speakers and labbies, forming a lasting symbol of their connection through the C3G Family Conferences. This tree symbolizes the growth that has been and will be towards further understanding and treatments of C3G.

Fabhalta approved by the FDA, the first drug available worldwide specifically for the treatment of C3G -

Dear C3G Family and Friends,   In 2015-16, Novartis partnered with the MORL to test three different compounds for possible use in C3G.  To expedite the process, a scientist from Switzerland did two mini-sabbaticals in the MORL to study these compounds under the guidance of MORL scientists using as...
