As we get ready for the Kalamazoo Math Carnival to return to WMU in November, read about mathematics professor Dr. Mariana Levin and her students' work bringing the fun back into math at past carnivals—both the first, which drew over 400 K-8 students last November, and a second one held in Arabic this past May. 🎪

“It’s an opportunity to be playful and curious,” Levin says. “That is one of the things that I want my future teachers to take with them into the classroom—that kind of joy in doing math because I think that that’s one of the things that they’ll pass onto their students.”

The Kalamazoo Math Carnival is back! 📈

The WMU Department of Mathematics invites K-8 students to experience math like never before through over 20 fun, free math-themed games and activities full of real-world applications. Parents, friends and caregivers are invited to join in the fun!

Learn all about new director Dr. Ashley Atkins' vision for the WMU Center for the Study of Ethics in Society, starting with her recent partnership with the Kalamazoo Canadiana Fest. 🇨🇦

“What I've found in talking to people about ethics is that when I say ‘ethics,’ they hear ‘problems,’” says Atkins. “I want to change that perception in the broader community. Ethics is woven into everything that we do and it's at the heart of our community building.” 💭
