KU Film and Media Studies Through film analysis and production, we explore who we are, where we've been, and where we're going.

Because the world has stories to tell, and through analysis and production, we work toward a greater awareness of who we are, where we've been, and where we are going.

Prof. Mai has co-edited a documentary titled, " Invisibility and Rage: Asian American, Racial Trauma, Mental Health" with Kelly H. Chong, professor and chair of the Department of Sociology at KU, and Tim De Paepe, alum (who co-directed with Chong).

The film combines personal testimony, historical analysis and creative artistic expression to expose the layers of racial trauma in Asian American Pacific Islander communities. The project reveals how systemic invisibility and stigma have shaped such communities’ mental health outcomes.

Mitchy McGhan, AD, will be speaking with students in Prof. Backs's FMS 303 Scheduling & Budgeting class on Zoom this Thursday, Oct 8 at 11:15 am.

➡️ Check your KU inbox for the link!

Michelle “Mitchy" McGhan is a spirited filmmaker and assistant director originally from Berkeley, California. A proud Korean-American creative with deep roots in both indie and studio worlds, Mitchy has carved out a name for herself as a sharp, resourceful force behind the camera. She began her journey as a child actor before realizing her true passion wasn't just in front of the camera -- it was orchestrating the beautiful chaos behind it. Mitchy's credits span features, shorts, and series, balancing emotionally grounded storytelling with the logistical wizardry required on set. She's also a passionate writer and director, always hungry to craft Asian American stories that connect.
