Congratulations to KU Chemistry alumna Dr. Lisa McElwee-White on her election as 2027 President-Elect of the American Chemical Society!

Lisa discovered her passion for chemistry as a KU undergraduate conducting research in Professor Kristin Bowman-James' lab. What began as a change in career plans sparked a lifelong love of chemistry!

Now a Distinguished Professor at the University of Florida and a valued member of our KU Chemistry Alumni Advisory Board, Lisa continues to make us proud.

We are saddened to share the passing of Dr. Donald “Don” Leedy (PhD ’68), a pioneering chemist, devoted Jayhawk, and longtime friend and supporter of KU Chemistry.

Don’s scientific legacy reaches back to the earliest development of spectroelectrochemistry, but his impact on our department extended far beyond his research. Throughout his life and career, he remained deeply connected to KU Chemistry, generously supporting our students, faculty, staff, and the Ralph N. Adams Institute. He was a valued member of our Alumni Advisory Board, an enthusiastic ambassador for the department, and, to those who knew him, a thoughtful colleague and genuinely kind person.

We are grateful for Don’s remarkable life, his enduring commitment to KU, and the many ways his generosity and enthusiasm strengthened our community.
