K-State IMSE Our mission is to prepare students for a successful life-long career and provide leadership in our profession through research and educational programs.

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering is a degree program that allows you to combine your math and science skills with a business approach. The combination of all three is what makes this degree so unique. Industrial engineers design and improve the way goods and services are produced and delivered. Among teams or small work-groups we collaborate to eliminate waste of time, money, materials and other resources. Most importantly, we are responsible for improving the overall effectiveness of an organization. Our mission is to prepare students for successful life-long careers and provide leadership in industry and our profession through our research and educational programs. To accomplish this mission, we:
- Educate students at the undergraduate level to be engineers who can design, analyze, and improve systems that produce goods and services.
- Educate students at the graduate level to become leaders in the application of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering skills and tools and lead the quest to advance the state-of-the-art in IMSE disciplines.
- Perform research in our discipline that is both of fundamental importance and of value to industry, our profession, and society as a whole.
- Serve our institution, community, and profession by using our skills and time to advance their missions.

Scott Case, once again, helped Dr. Shuting Lei and adjunct professor Larry Strecker bring real-world experience to the Facility Design class (IMSE 555)!

This was Scott’s seventh year working with the professors, students, and class. Scott, former President and CEO of Farrar Industries, worked with Dr. Lei and Larry on a semester-long case study of Farrar’s industrial business.

Students worked in teams of 4–5 and presented their final recommendations to Scott, Dr. Lei, and Larry at the end of the spring semester.

The students then wrote thank-you notes to Scott, which were compiled into a poster along with their team photos. Larry presented the special thank-you poster to Scott earlier this week.

Thank you, SCOTT, and all our alumni who are super supportive of the K-State IMSE Department! We appreciate your continued dedication to our students and the real-world experiences you help provide! 💜
