The SAFE Project Collegiate Recovery Leadership Academy (CRLA) application is now open!
The CRLA is an academic-year-long fellowship for college students passionate about the intersections of addiction and mental health recovery, leadership, and advocacy.
CRLA Fellows design and implement a prevention, harm reduction, or recovery-focused Impact Project on their campus. Throughout the program, Fellows receive advocacy and leadership training, attend two in-person events, and join a supportive national cohort of student leaders committed to shifting the culture in higher education.
Applications will close Monday, September 7.

Community-Based Care Coordinator

Provide community-based care coordination to individuals with substance use, behavioral health symptoms/diagnosis, and/or those experiencing employment, legal, or housing issues. Services will focus on meeting individual needs from a holistic, integrated strengths-based model to enhance individual’s cognitive, social, emotional, and coping skill sets. Services are designed to reduce risk, gain access to needed resources, increase stability, and improve one’s overall health.

Community care coordinators serve as a central point of contact and work to link the clients to resources in the areas of Recovery, Housing, Employment, Mental Health and Physical Health. Reducing the barriers and facilitating effective communication in these areas, have proven effective in helping the clients regain stability in their lives, as well as prevent or reduce the need for admission to hospitals, detoxes or jails by directing the client toward beneficial resources in their community. The primary goal of the community care coordination project is to reduce the use of high cost resources and helping clients improve their quality of life.

The care coordinator will focus on the whole person and stress comprehensive assessment, service planning, and service coordination to address multiple aspects of a client’s life. Ability to use a Strengths Based Case Management Model, Motivational Interviewing, and Brief Intervention Skills will be integral to this position. Advocate for client needs in order that opportunity for self-sufficiency is increased.

Positions Available in Garden City, Great Bend, Hays and Lawrence.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include:

Masters or Bachelor level preparation with experience in social work, health care related field, and behavioral health or substance abuse systems is preferred.Licensure through the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board of KS preferred LAC – Licensed Addictions CounselorLMAC – Licensed Masters Addictions CounselorLCAC – Licensed Clinical Addictions CounselorConsideration will be given to candidates that are in process of obtaining BSRB licensure. Computer skills require proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel & OutlookAbility to accurately document client progress in electronic medical recordExcellent interpersonal skills required – both verbal & writtenAttention to detail required for documentation and reportingAbility to work autonomously & effectively communicate with stakeholders, clients and staffBi-lingual skills a plus

The Missouri State Public Defender’s Holistic Defense Services Program is growing statewide, and we’re seeking passionate individuals to join us in supporting clients whose legal challenges are often rooted in poverty, trauma, and unmet behavioral‑health needs. Our team uses a collaborative, client‑centered approach to break cycles of criminalization and promote stability, dignity, and justice.
We are currently hiring for THREE impactful roles. Please help us spread the word!

1. Mitigation Specialist (Placement Available Statewide, Full‑Time Employment. Starting Pay: $50,256) CLOSES SOON!

Mitigation Specialists take a holistic approach to representation, working with clients to identify biopsychosocial needs, connect to community-based resources, and provide mitigation advocacy in their cases.
• Conduct interviews, gather records, and work with support networks to develop mitigation that uplifts each client’s life story.
• Provide case management by connecting clients with treatment, transportation, and community resources that support stability.
• Support attorneys through in-depth mitigation for bond decisions, negotiations, and sentencing.
• Build local partnerships, supervise interns, and help track data that demonstrates the impact of holistic defense.

Entry‑level role working directly with clients, attorneys, and community partners. Advocates help clients access essential services and stability.

Key contributions:
• Connect clients with housing, health care, treatment programs, transportation, and other essential resources that support stability.
• Help clients obtain IDs, insurance, and key documents that remove barriers and strengthen their foundation.
• Conduct meaningful interviews, engage families and supporters, and gather materials that help tell each client’s full story.
• Build community partnerships and support data-driven practices that advance holistic defense across Missouri.
• Provide peer supports to clients with substance use or mental health needs (if applicable)

Benefits include a living stipend, eligibility for an education award upon successful completion of service, and health insurance for full-time members, among others. Positions are contingent on funding.
