The Division of Social Sciences at Maryville College includes the disciplines of Economics, Politica Social scientific inquiry raises a myriad of questions.

The Division of Social Sciences at Maryville College includes the disciplines of Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Criminal Justice and Business. In addition, we offer interdisciplinary programs in the areas of Environmental Studies and International Studies. Our primary goal is to provide students with the tools they will need to understand our changing social world and to find their place in that world. We provide students with opportunities to explore important questions related to contemporary political, environmental, economic, social and international issues. This involves interactive classroom instruction, class projects, service learning, internships, research and international study. Many of these have moral and ethical implications. Our faculty invite and expect students to grapple with complex subjects such as ethical business practices, environmental sustainability and economic justice. In doing so, we promote the College’s mission to serve the human community. Research & Outcomes

The SSD Water Refill Station in the second floor lobby is about to achieve a historic milestone – 50,000 water bottles refilled. Time to celebrate this achievement!!! With a contest. 😊

If YOU are the person who fills the 50,000th water bottle (display reads 50,000), take a photo and send it to [email protected], and you will win a prize for your achievement!!

Happy 104th Birthday to Thaw Hall! Home to the Scots Learning Commons, the Lamar Memorial Library, the Division of Social Sciences, Disability Resources & Accessibility and the Student Success Center, Thaw Hall was named for William Thaw, whose support for MC — even though he never attended — was a godsend in the years following the Civil War.

Today, Thaw Hall stands as a grand old sentinel overlooking the MC grounds, and many Scots memories continue to be made there. It was dedicated on this date in 1922.
