Join us this Friday in FB 101 at 4pm for a seminar from Dr. Rebecca Krogman - biometrician with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources 🎣

Dr. Krogman’s research combines fisheries science and the human dimensions of natural resource management. Her work explores topics from fish populations and fisheries management strategies to angler behavior and recreational resource use.

What can our teeth and faces tell us about growth, development, and human variation? 🦷

Join us for our next seminar, TOMORROW in FB 101 at 4pm, to hear from Dr. Christina Nicholas from the University of Illinois Chicago. Dr. Nicholas conducts interdisciplinary research, combining perspectives from human evolution, genetics, forensics, and oral health to investigate how our faces and teeth develop and why they vary among individuals and populations.

Join us THIS Wednesday, Sept. 30 for a special seminar from Dr. Larry Nielsen!

Dr. Nielsen is a fisheries biologist, conservationist, educator, and storyteller whose career has centered on understanding, managing, and communicating about our natural resources. He is now a Professor Emeritus of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University. He will be sharing with us stories from his book, “Nature’s Allies: Eight Conservationists Who Changed Our World.”

The seminar will be held in FB 253 at 4:45pm. All are welcome - we hope to see you there!

Are you interested in ecology or sustainability? You may be a great fit to enroll in BIO 299X: Tropical Ecology for Spring 2027! This course focuses on solutions to sustainability problems, and includes a Spring Break Field Experience in Puerto Rico! Students must apply through Study Abroad to enroll in the course and trip.

Join us this Friday for a seminar with Dr. Daelyn Woolnough from Central Michigan University!

Dr. Woolnough’s research focuses on the spatial ecology and conservation of freshwater ecosystems, with an emphasis on native mussels. She will be sharing her work examining where these mussels occur, how contaminants affect their populations, the complex ecological relationships they have with other aquatic organisms, and how these topics inform conservation efforts.

This talk is sure to be un-bivalve-able! We hope you’ll join us in FB 101 at 4pm on Friday.

Our next seminar speaker in the fall 2026 series is our very own Dr. VJ Rubenstein!

Dr. Rubenstein’s research explores how cells maintain protein quality by identifying and removing dysfunctional proteins. This work has many important implications for understanding human diseases like diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders. His seminar will focus on “A new member of the cellular tow truck crew: Dfm1.”

Our first speaker of the semester is Dr. Amy Jo Marcano-Reik from the University of Jamestown. She will be sharing her research on “Precision medicine, AI, and translational innovation in neuropodiatry.” 🦶
