Congratulations to Ball State School of Journalism and Strategic Communication's Dr. Kuban!

Since 2011, Dr. Kuban has been a faculty member at Ball State, and as Dean Kristen McCauliff said, his “work reflects the best of what we want for students in CCIM: rigorous teaching, meaningful mentorship, and opportunities to apply what they are learning in ways that serve communities.”

Dr. Adam Kuban, professor in Ball State University’s School of Journalism and Strategic Communication, has been named Teacher of the Year by the Scripps Howard Fund as part of the 73rd Scripps Howard Journalism Awards.

When in Dr. Michael Lee's classes, current graduate student Marcus Stach said he wasn't just learning curriculum.

"Dr. Lee taught me a lot about having confidence in myself and my work," Stach said.

From learning about web development, 3D modeling, and game engines to studying abroad in South Korea, Dr. Lee has taught Stach many lessons that have helped him grow into who he is today both personally and professionally.

"He's really helped me break out of my shell," Stach said. "He's given me a lot of encouragement and support during my time at Ball State, and I still value the advice he's given me about life."

Stach said Dr. Lee has also encouraged seeking learning opportunities outside of the classroom, and is a proponent of "gaining as many skills as I can whether for professional use or to feed my curiosity."

His time working with Dr. Lee helped Stach obtain his current graduate assistantship, and will continue to guide him long after his time at Ball State has come to a close.

Make sure you review the University clear bag policy before heading to the ceremony!

To provide a safe environment and expedite entry at this year's commencement, you'll need to follow the University clear bag policy. Pass this information along to anyone coming to Commencement on May 2!
Approved bags:
Clear tote | plastic, vinyl, or PVC | no larger than 12"x6"x12"
Clear drawstring bag | plastic, vinyl, or PVC | no larger than 12"x6"x12"
Storage bag | 1-gallon resealable, clear bag
Small clutch purse | any color | no larger than 4.5"x6.5"
