A new portrait honoring JWU founders Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales now welcomes visitors to The Alcove in downtown Providence.

Created by Rhode Island artist Victor Aguirre Williams, the large-scale oil painting is the first known full-length portrait depicting the founders together, celebrating the partnership and legacy that shaped JWU.

See it during Homecoming & Family Weekend at A Night at the Museum with Mary & Gertrude on Saturday, October 3, followed by a fireside chat with the artist, beverages and hors d’oeuvres.
