Brown CS PhD Student Victor Ojewale Receives The Inaugural OpenMined Research Fellowship

Working to move LLM evaluations into the hands of the communities that actually use them, Victor will be part of a cohort dedicated to researching how we can program AI to use data that doesn’t breach our privacy.

Anthropic Formal Verification Work Builds On A Brown CS Course Project

When Anthropic published a report this week on how AI is making formal software verification practical at scale, it contained an experiment with deep Brown CS roots. Anthropic asked Claude to write an interpreter for a large chunk of Python, in Rust, and then to prove that it follows the CPython semantics “outlined in an academic paper”. That paper is Python: The Full Monty: A Tested Semantics for the Python Programming Language, published at OOPSLA 2013, and much of it was built by undergraduates.

Adriana Schulz Keynotes Pacific Graphics 2026

“Generative models,” says Brown CS faculty member Adriana Schulz, “have transformed our ability to create images, geometry, and other digital content. But designing objects for the physical world requires more than generating something plausible or visually compelling. Physical artifacts must also be manufacturable and satisfy functional and performance requirements, turning design into a search through complex, highly constrained spaces.”

Strong Representation At CSCW Shows Brown CS Impact In Social Computing And Human-Computer Interaction

The twenty-ninth ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing (CSCW 2026), held this week from October 10-14 in Salt Lake City, is widely considered a premier venue for research in the design and use of technologies that affect groups, organizations, communities, and networks. This year, Brown CS community members are returning from the event with five accepted papers, and the work spans research areas ranging from activism to data maintenance to AI and mental health.

Apply Now For The $15,000 Pausch Undergraduate Summer Research Award

Brown CS is glad to announce that applications are open for the Randy F. Pausch '82 Computer Science Undergraduate Summer Research Award, which provides $15,000 annually to support an undergraduate engaged in an intensive faculty-student summer research partnership with the Department of Computer Science. Typically, the award supports established student-faculty relationships. Recipients should be CS or joint-CS concentrators, and cannot be graduating in May 2027.

The Scientist Asks Sohini Ramachandran About Fifteen Years Of Exploring Human Genetic Variation

"The longer I am a scientist," says Brown University's Hermon C. Bumpus Professor of Biology and Data Science and Professor of Computer Science Sohini Ramachandran, "the more I see it as an infinite game. A finite game is where there's a winner and a loser, and at some point, it ends. [In] an infinite game, you want to play to keep playing."
