Official communication from the University and department of Residential Life, Housing and Food Services to student staff, including RAs, and residents was consistent in that there was no need to evacuate the residence halls when the Hawk Fire was threatening neighborhoods in north Reno. The University and department had an evacuation plan ready to implement.

We appreciate RAs' concerns for their residents and trying to encourage them to be prepared; however, this was not the information or direction provided to them throughout this situation.

Throughout this situation, all the residence halls were staffed by Residential Life, Housing and Food Services staff members who interacted with residents, answered questions, supported students who were concerned, and reinforced the message that there was no need to evacuate, but if residents felt the need to leave campus, they were welcome to do so.

This has been a horrific situation for many University Students, Faculty, and Staff and members of our greater Reno community. Our hearts go out to those impacted and empathize with the stress and concern this situation caused on-campus residents and their parents, families, and supporters.

Welcome back to Part 8 of the Residence Hall Room Tour Series. Our next building spotlight is the Nevada Living Learning Community Hall!✨💙

The Nevada LLC Hall, built in 2012, has 5 stories and houses up to 320 residents. Nevada LLC Hall offers suite-style layouts, where adjacent bedrooms in a unit share a bathroom. This style mainly includes double bedrooms (shown above), with occasional single bedrooms available. Additionally, the Nevada LLC Hall is home to a variety of academic LLCs!🏠🐾

Originally built in 1896 & renovated in 2019, Manzanita Hall has 3 stories and houses up to 100 residents. Manzanita Hall offers double and occasional single style bedrooms (shown above), and community style bathrooms. Additionally, Manzanita Hall offers laundry, a piano room, a study room in the basement, and connects to Juniper Hall🏠🐾

Juniper Hall, built in 1962, has 3 stories and houses up to 78 residents. This hall offers a multipurpose room on the first floor, laundry, and is just steps away from Manzanita Lake & the Overlook Food Court 💙🐺
