South Hills School of Business & Technology is a career school with locations in State College and Altoona. Pennsylvania, that is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). Founders Paul (1930-2013) and Maralyn Mazza created South Hills School of Business & Technology in 1970 when they saw the need for more specialized skills training in central Pennsylvania.

Since then, more than 6,000 graduates have earned their degrees and gone on to lead successful careers. Paul and Maralyn believed in “Teaching People, Changing Lives,” a timeless ideal that continues to inspire faculty, staff, and students.

Members of the Health Careers Club at South Hills hosted their 3rd annual Anti-Hunger Backpack Filling Day in collaboration with the YMCA of Centre County Anti-Hunger Program.

Students/Members donated ready-to-make food items for community Elementary students, filled 500 bags of food to send home with these children, and donated $150 from the HCC Fund, which the club has done fundraisers throughout the year to raise money to donate to charities of their choice.

If you want to learn more about this program or how you can help, read the message below from their program director Mel Curtis.

"The school-age weekend food Backpack Program has surpassed 2,000 bags per week, and we get additional students each week.

The Veterans MilitaryShare Program, launched in January 2025, is a great way to give back to those who put their lives on hold to defend our country. In January 2025, we had 24 families registered, and as of March 2026, we have 378.

We launched a program, “Our House to Your House” at our YMCA Branches. These are pantries that, if a family is running out of food, they can stop at the YMCA so they have food for their family.

The above programs are supported through donations only. On average, monthly, we are spending $27,500.00, so others don’t go without food. Without the support of our community, programs like these wouldn’t be happening. I would ask that you consider assisting us with a financial donation. As a 501(C) (3), there are tax benefits to you.

Volunteers are extremely important, and they are the reason for successful programs. At the YMCA of Centre County Backpack and Anti-Hunger Program."

🎉 Student Spotlight: Diagnostic Medical OB/GYN Sonography Student Maddy Harvey just completed her internship and sent us a picture outside of her clinical site to celebrate. Maddy did a split rotation, starting her clinical at UPMC Altoona for her GYN requirements, followed by a longer rotation with WellSpan Maternal Fetal Medicine, York, PA, where she completed her OB requirements with a focus on high-risk MFM patients.
