๐ณ One more season.
After nearly five decades as a Shocker โ as a student-athlete, coach and leader โ Coach Mark Lewis has announced that the 2026-27 season will be his final season with Shocker Bowling.
Lewisโ Shocker story began as a student-athlete from 1978-81, during which he helped the Shocker men capture the programโs first national championship in 1980. His bowling career would go on to include representing Team USA at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, four USBC Open Championships and induction into both the USBC Hall of Fame and Wichita Sports Hall of Fame, among others.
But it was his love for team bowling that ultimately brought Coach Lewis back to Wichita State.
โAfter my Shocker Bowling athlete experience, I fell in love with team bowling. Any success I had as a player did not happen by myself, and I wanted to help young players achieve their goals.โ
Lewis began coaching with Shocker Bowling as a volunteer in 1989 before joining the program full-time in 1999. He went on to lead the womenโs program and, in 2019, became Director of Shocker Bowling, overseeing both the menโs and womenโs teams. Most recently, when Shocker womenโs bowling transitioned to NCAA competition in 2024, he helped guide that next chapter as an assistant coach while continuing to lead the menโs program as Director of Bowling.
Along the way, Coach Lewis has watched Shocker Bowling grow from a program primarily made up of Wichita-area athletes into one attracting bowlers from across the country and around the world.
There will be plenty of time to celebrate Coach Lewis, his accomplishments and the impact he has made on Shocker Bowling throughout his remarkable career.
But first, thereโs still one more season to bowl.
Coach Lewis and the Shockers are looking forward to making the 2026-27 season one to remember, and we look forward to celebrating his final season alongside our Shocker Bowling family. ๐๐๐
Hereโs to one more run, Coach. ๐๐ค๐ณ
