WIUT Secures Uzbekistan’s Second Horizon Europe Project 🇪🇺

We are delighted to announce another major international research achievement for Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) and for Uzbekistan.

WIUT has been awarded participation in a new Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action (RIA) project - GLOBAL-ACT: “Integrated global assessment of climate risks and the socio-economic costs of climate inaction under institutional delay and geopolitical fragmentation.”

This achievement marks an important national milestone. Following TiBeRIUM, officially announced as Uzbekistan’s first Horizon Europe project, GLOBAL-ACT represents the second Horizon Europe project win for Uzbekistan with WIUT participating in both.

Importantly, WIUT is the only institution from Uzbekistan participating in the GLOBAL-ACT consortium, strengthening the country’s representation in one of the European Union’s flagship research and innovation programmes.

🌍 22 international partners across Europe, Central Asia, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas
💶 Total project budget: €4.55 million
⏳ Duration: 36 months
🏆 Evaluation score: 14.5/15
🇺🇿 Uzbekistan partner: Westminster International University in Tashkent
👤 WIUT Project Coordinator: Dr Alisher Pulatov

GLOBAL-ACT will develop a new generation of integrated climate–economy assessment tools to better understand the socio-economic costs of climate inaction, including the effects of institutional delays and geopolitical fragmentation, and to identify feasible pathways for mitigation, adaptation and resilience.

This second Horizon Europe success represents another significant step in strengthening Uzbekistan’s integration into the European and global research ecosystem and demonstrates WIUT’s growing capacity to participate in highly competitive, large-scale international research programmes.

We are proud to represent Uzbekistan in this global consortium and look forward to working with our international partners to contribute meaningful research to one of the most pressing challenges of our time.

WIUT Hosts National Youth Debate on Gender Equality 🇺🇿

To mark International Youth Day on 12 August, a national debate tournament on “Youth Voices for Gender Equality” was held at Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) in the British Parliamentary format.

The tournament was organised by the Youth Parliament under the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The opening ceremony brought together Senator Malika Qodirxonova, Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan Toivo Klaar, UNFPA Representative in Uzbekistan Nigina Abaszada, Chairperson of the Youth Parliament Laylo Aslonova, and Rector of WIUT Dr Komiljon Karimov, who addressed the participants and wished them success in the tournament.

Throughout the tournament, young participants discussed issues related to gender equality, human rights and social justice, presenting and defending their positions through evidence-based debates.

The event provided an opportunity for participants to strengthen their critical thinking, public speaking, negotiation and analytical skills, while expanding their understanding of contemporary approaches to gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence.

More than 50 young leaders took part in the programme, gaining practical experience in promoting equality, challenging harmful stereotypes and supporting positive social change within their communities and educational institutions.

The winning teams and most active participants were also recognised as CHANGE Project Ambassadors and will have opportunities to participate in future youth initiatives organised by the partners, as well as national and international forums.

WIUT is pleased to have hosted an initiative that brings young people together to engage in meaningful dialogue and contribute their voices to important conversations on equality, human rights and social justice.
