What does it really mean to give to gain?
The Women in Business Networking Event brought together a room of professionals and students to mark International Women's Day under the theme Give to Gain, exploring how generosity and intentional collaboration create real opportunities for leadership and impact.
Two entrepreneurs shared the kind of work that makes this theme tangible. Rethabile Mashale-Sonibare, co-founder and managing director of Molo Mhlaba Schools, spoke about expanding educational access for girls through transformative leadership development. Amber Ashley James, co-founder of Velisa Wine, shared how she built a purpose-driven brand rooted in African culture and sustainable entrepreneurship.
Their stories carried a clear message. When women invest in one another, the impact reaches well beyond individual success.
The evening also introduced the 2026 Women in Business Committee at the UCT Graduate School of Business, and confirmed an exciting addition to the calendar: the Women in Business Conference, taking place on 7 August 2026.
Thank you to our sponsors, Starbucks, Woolworths, DGB and Velisa Wines, for helping make the evening memorable.
The new committee is already looking ahead to a year of connection, support and shared growth. The conference in August is one to watch.
