"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other." Galatians 5:22-26

Powerful cultural forces seek to form our desires and choices. A pivotal biblical text insists, “Do not be conformed … be transformed”. How are we formed? Counter-formed? Transformed … for faithful living, godly ministry, wise leadership?

This unit delves into formational practices for disciples of Christ who long to make a difference in churches, workplaces, and families. We will explore human identity, self-care, conflict, power dynamics, stress, burnout, spiritual warfare, addictive patterns, complex relationships, and more.

Intensive mode is a great study option for busy full-time workers, or for those living outside the Sydney area. Join us for the concentrated lecture week on-campus or online, and complete the rest of your studies at home.

Conflict is part of our lives in this broken world – and the church is not immune! Conflict within our church families can deeply disappoint, deplete and disorient us.

The purpose of this intensive unit is to enable Christian leaders to develop insight into the dynamics of conflict within church communities and to acquire skills in prevention, management and recovery from conflicted situations.

Study on-campus or online, for credit or audit.

“You don’t dilute the truth, you distill the truth, and it’s very different. Anyone can water truth down, and it’s quite another thing to distill it, to preserve its integrity and perhaps even intensify the truth in the process of seeking to simplify.”
– Colin Buchanan, SMBC 2026 Children’s Ministry Conference.

We at SMBC we believe that God is glorified and we grow in wisdom and character when the community in which we learn and serve is richly diverse.

As a proudly interdenominational college, SMBC receives no denominational funding, and is sustained by the generous support of many partners who share our vision — to see thousands of loving, skilled graduates bringing the light of Christ to a dark and needy world.

Please consider making a tax-deductible gift this End of Financial Year to support the ministry and mission of SMBC: https://buff.ly/zbI8Bvd
