Are young people being heard about their health?

New research has found young people with chronic illness were often told their symptoms were part of growing up, when the reality was a serious underlying condition requiring medical attention.

Lead researcher Dr Imogen Harper from the Sydney Centre for Healthy Societies says the research highlights how deeply held assumptions about youth can prevent young people from receiving appropriate care.

“Fertiliser is a massive cost - and when prices rise, you feel it straight away.”

Scott McCalman is the owner and manager of Jedburgh Farming, and one of many farmers who rely on nitrogen fertiliser to grow the crops that help feed Australia.

With 90% of Australia’s nitrogen fertiliser coming from overseas, farmers like Scott are feeling the impact of global disruptions and rising costs that make production more expensive, ultimately leading to higher grocery bills for consumers.

Emerging technology from University of Sydney spin-out PlasmaLeap is working on a solution that would allow farmers to produce fertiliser directly on-site using just air, water and renewable energy, creating greater independence for farmers and a more resilient food system that benefits us all.
