2025 年,她更榮獲 Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing 頒發的 Nell J. Watts Lifetime Achievement in Nursing Award,成為首位獲此殊榮的香港學者。

Begin Your PhD in Nursing Journey at Tung Wah College
Advance nursing knowledge. Transform healthcare practice. Lead research with real-world impact.
Nursing is a profession grounded in care, evidence, and social responsibility. At the doctoral level, it becomes a powerful platform for generating new knowledge, improving clinical practice, influencing health policy, and shaping the future of healthcare. For nurses and healthcare professionals who aspire to extend their contribution beyond individual patient care, a doctoral study in Nursing offers the opportunity to ask important questions, conduct rigorous research, and translate findings into meaningful improvements for patients, families, communities, and health systems.
Tung Wah College’s Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing programme is the first PhD in Nursing programme offered by self-financing tertiary institution in Hong Kong and is designed for prospective researchers, nurse leaders, educators, and healthcare professionals who are committed to advancing nursing science and addressing contemporary health challenges.
Under the leadership and guidance of Professor Sally Chan, President of Tung Wah College and an internationally recognised nursing scholar, students will join a research environment that values academic excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and practical relevance. Professor Chan’s scholarly work has been shaped by her early professional experience in mental health nursing and her enduring belief that research should respond to real-world healthcare needs. Her research interests include mental healthcare, psychosocial interventions, digital health, and translational approaches that connect research evidence with clinical and community practice.
Professor Chan has participated in more than 120 funded research projects and published over 400 papers in international healthcare and nursing journals. She has extensive experience in postgraduate supervision and has co-authored numerous publications with her students, reflecting her commitment to mentoring emerging scholars and developing the next generation of nursing researchers.
Her academic standing has received significant international recognition. From 2021 to 2025, Professor Chan was consistently listed among Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists and ranked among the leading nursing scholars in Hong Kong. She was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2013 and inducted into the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame. In 2025, she received the Nell J. Watts Lifetime Achievement in Nursing Award from Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, becoming the first scholar from Hong Kong to receive this prestigious honour.
At Tung Wah College we encourage doctoral students to pursue research that is intellectually rigorous, socially responsive, and professionally relevant. The programme is particularly well positioned for those interested in areas such as mental health and well-being, psychosocial care, ageing and chronic disease management, digital health, healthcare education, and evidence-based practice. Students will have opportunities to engage with a research culture that emphasises innovation, interdisciplinarity, and the translation of research outcomes into healthcare practice and community benefit.
If you are ready to take the next step in your professional and academic journey, the PhD in Nursing programme at Tung Wah College offers a rigorous and inspiring pathway to develop as an independent researcher, a reflective practitioner, and a leader in nursing and healthcare transformation.
