Being the first EMBA in the region since 1993, CUHK EMBA fuses Chinese Wisdom and Western Knowhow.

The CUHK EMBA programme, initially offered by the CUHK Business School in 1993, is a two-year part-time English-instructed programme that is unique in its approach to graduate business education in Hong Kong. In the 2023 Financial Times Global Executive MBA Ranking, we rank 23rd globally and maintain our strong foothold as No. 1 in Asia Pacific and 5th globally in the “Career Progress” category, which assesses changes in the level of seniority and the size of company at which alumni work now, versus before their EMBA. We also secure the 2nd position in Asia Pacific in the “Aims Achieved” category, which measures the extent to which alumni have fulfilled their goals or reasons for pursuing the EMBA. These notable results are testament to our strengths in delivering exceptional leadership experience and commitment to propelling our students to the next level in their career. We aim to maintain our ability of nurturing top-notch management talent to meet the needs of Hong Kong, the mainland and the world. Our motto is to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together China and the West. We have also established the “six pillars” (Theories, Practices, Internal Network, External Network, Strategic Perspectives and Social Contribution) as our programme's core value to enhance the wellbeing of the business community and society. AI awareness is high. Adoption is stuck.

Most leaders fully recognise AI’s potential. Yet, in a landscape flooded with new tools, moving from awareness to practical, strategic ex*****on remains the ultimate barrier for today’s decision-makers.

To solve this barrier, our recent CUHK EMBA enrichment workshop focused on the practical mechanics of AI adoption. Rather than dwelling on abstract theories, we explored how business leaders can transition from simple chatbots to autonomous AI agents.

Our guest speaker Mr Keith Wu, C-Suite Executive of LH Group and Manus AI Fellow, highlighted the defining future trend of AI personalisation. Drawing from his corporate experience, he shared how future competitive advantage belongs to leaders who move past generic tools to build tailored AI systems customised to their company’s proprietary data and workflows.

We were also joined by digital marketing expert Ar Shek, a well-known tech-passionate creator on YouTube. Ar Shek delivered rapid-fire live demonstrations of cutting-edge AI developments and tools, giving our executive audience a practical look at the technology currently reshaping modern business workflows.

Navigating this tech disruption requires collective intelligence. This is why our community, spanning current candidates to pioneering alumni from the Class of 1996, came together to dissect these shifts. In the tech era, an active, forward-thinking network is a leader’s strongest asset.

We stood in the middle of the Inner Mongolia desert, 4 hours from anywhere, watching megawatts of solar power hold back a sea of sand.

Our CUHK EMBA group just completed a field trip that felt less like a site visit and more like a reality check.

3 lessons that hit different when you see them live:

1️⃣ Standing inside China Three Gorges’ energy storage complex, we understood the word “scale”. The kind that keeps millions of lights on when the wind stops blowing.

2️⃣ Looking at endless rows of panels in Kubuqi, we saw how they stop deserts from expanding while powering cities. That’s double impact.

3️⃣ Long drives were for sleeping. The best debates happened back at stay over 1am chats. (Alumni + executives + late-night banter = strategy you can’t learn from a case study.)

Alumni made up the majority of this trip, learning alongside current executives. It’s proof that our network doesn’t stop at graduation. It only gets tighter over time.

Steering McKinsey’s strategic vision across Greater China, Joe redefined how individuals and organisations should navigate quiet seasons. He framed lulls as the ultimate window to fix the sails, rethink positioning, and build the momentum needed when the next wind arrives.

Heading a 185-year, HK$209B revenue retail empire, Malina redefined organisational leadership drawing on Formula 1 engineering. She highlighted that true agility isn’t about having faster leaders, but about having shared leadership.

Spain, where textbook executive logic dissolves into creative sparks. 🕶️

Our cohort recently completed an intense, five-day module on leadership and digital transformation at IE Business School in Madrid.

The first creative spark happened in the classroom.

IE professors Marcos Cajina Heinzkill and Ricardo Pérez Garrido pushed our leaders to dissect advanced business frameworks, triggering bold mindsets for digital disruption among executive peers.

Then, the innovation hit the field.

Whether analysing the massive smart logistics at Port de Barcelona or exchanging tech intelligence on-site at Indra Group and FICOSA, these new insights instantly clicked into real-world breakthroughs.

But the true synergy happened over tapas.

As our leaders brought their intuition from the field to shared meals, the strategic dialogue underwent a brilliant shift. It’s over these authentic moments and local tapas that insights collide, sparking the sharpest creative ideas.

Joe Ngai, Chairman of McKinsey Greater China, joined us for a candid discussion on the future of China’s business landscape.

Centred on his latest book, “The Next China is Still China: An Insider’s Playbook for Winning in the New Era” (co-authored with Nick Leung), the session unpacked insights built on 15 months of work, 300+ interviews, and conversations with 60 China partners.

Its central argument? China’s growth is slowing, but even at a 4-5% annual GDP, the expansion still adds staggering value. There is simply no substitute for the Chinese market.

Joe describes China as “the world’s toughest gym”.

Intense competition. Relentless speed. Demanding consumers. No standing still. You run to survive.

Yet, he highlighted why the glass remains half full: Generating a third of global expansion, China continues to redefine how industries scale next-gen technologies.

Our CUHK EMBA cohort stepped into the engine rooms of global technology during the Greater China Elite Study Week to Taipei.

Four days of intense, unfiltered joint immersion alongside our executive peers from National Taiwan University and Peking University.

The defining highlight belonged to a rare masterclass. Jason Wang 王仲文, Director of Corporate Planning Organisation at TSMC, stepped up to share his strategic vision. Hearing directly from the planning mind behind the world's most vital semiconductor foundry was a monumental masterclass in foresight and ex*****on.

To lead a global market, a leader must anticipate it years in advance.

Morris Chang 張忠謀's enduring legacy looms large over the industry. Through Mr Wang's deep-dive, we explored how long-term macro strategy dictates future manufacturing investments.

The journey then led to Delta Electronics 台達電子. For an EMBA candidate, a visit to their Chungli R&D plant is essential. Delta stands as a global giant in green energy and smart automation. This plant is where their industrial intelligence is designed.

We were deeply engaged by Daniel Chang 張立業, GM of Delta Taiwan Sales, and Calvin Cheng 鄭謝雄, VGM of Delta Power and System Business Group, who offered our leaders a look into advanced tech governance and the real-world application of sustainable innovation.

The strategic dialogue grew deeper back at National Taiwan University. Erix Yu 余定陸, Group VP of Applied Materials 美商應材, delivered an insightful session on navigating industry innovation.

Together with the distinguished NTU professors, the cohort mapped the complex mechanics of global ecosystem dominance.

Our executives return to Hong Kong with a profound shift in perspective. They carry an intimate understanding of industrial scale. They possess a clearer vision for regional transformation.

Thank you to National Taiwan University and Peking University for a phenomenal partnership dedicated to advancing regional leadership and tech-business excellence.
