Shackleton Lounge was buzzing during our recent UCD Hackathon, where students came together to tackle an important question:

How can UCD students be better prepared for the jobs of tomorrow?

Facilitated by the UCD Innovation Academy team and organised in collaboration with the UCD Careers Network, the hackathon challenged students to think creatively, collaborate and develop practical ideas for the future of careers.

And the energy continued right through to the pitching! We were delighted to welcome UCD Students’ Union to the judging panel, where they heard the teams present their innovative solutions.

From gamifying the job application experience and matching students with opportunities based on their profiles, to co-learning with alumni who are upskilling and replacing doom-scrolling with bite-sized microlearning, the ideas were full of possibilities.

Teams also explored ways to make internships easier to find and help students develop the transferable skills they'll need to navigate an ever-changing world of work.

A huge thank you to UCD Careers Network for helping make the event run smoothly, to UCD Students Union for joining our judging panel, and to everyone who brought their time, expertise and enthusiasm to the day.

And, of course, a massive congratulations to all the participating teams! 🎉 You brought creativity, collaboration and fresh perspectives to a challenge that matters to the entire UCD community.

The future of work is changing. It’s exciting to see our students already thinking about how to shape it.

A celebration of sustainability, ideas and community. 🌍✨

As we mark SDG Week at UCD, we’re looking back at some of the highlights from our Sustainability Celebration 2026.

The event brought together alumni and current students from UCD Innovation Academy’s sustainability programmes, including our MSc in Design Thinking for Sustainability cohorts.

There was plenty happening throughout the day:

💡 Talks about career growth and exploring opportunities
🎨 Hands-on ideation sessions on UN Sustainable Development Goals
🤝 Networking and new connections
🌱 Plenty of conversations about creating a more sustainable future

Our graduates always say that the community is one of the best things about being part of UCD Innovation Academy. Though they come from different backgrounds, they have a shared ambition to create meaningful change.

Want to be part of this community?

Explore the UCD Professional Diploma in Innovation for Sustainability or MSc in Design Thinking for Sustainability and join one of our upcoming Information Sessions.
