Advancing Mental Health Policy: Prevention, Treatment and Care
The MCP was represented by its President, Gail Debono, at the thematic event “Mental Health Risks and Concerns: Strategic Goals and Best Practices for Prevention, Treatment and Care,” held on 29 October 2026 at the Plenary Hall of the Parliament of Malta.
Organised by the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman, the event brought together distinguished speakers and experts to address strategic priorities and challenges in mental healthcare.
The programme featured contributions from Dr Adrian James, Professor Anton Grech, Dr Sarah Wollaston, and Professor Sir Simon Wessely GBE, among others, offering perspectives on mental health policy, prevention, treatment and care.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for reflection on the importance of evidence-based policymaking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of sustainable, accessible and effective mental health services.
The Malta Chamber of Psychologists remains committed to advocating for mental health policies grounded in scientific evidence, professional expertise and a comprehensive understanding of the psychological and social determinants of mental health.
Meaningful progress in mental healthcare requires more than policy commitments. It requires translating evidence into effective strategies that deliver tangible improvements in people’s lives.
