Calling all students enrolled in a studio art class! Biggin Gallery exhibiting artist and Auburn alumna Emily Blair Quinn '13 is available for studio visits this Thursday, October 29. Studio visits will be informal discussions about your current creative projects and career goals.

If you would like to speak with Emily about your works in progress, email Prof. Sarah Odens at [email protected] by Wednesday, October 28 at noon with blocks of time that work for you (minimum 30 min) in the following time frames:

Thursday, Oct 29 between 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00-3:00pm.

Friday, Oct. 30 between 9:00am-1:00pm

All studio visits on Thursday, Oct. 29 will take place in Biggin Hall; 3-D Building visits must take place on Friday, Oct. 30. Slots are limited, and e-mailing Prof. Odens does not guarantee a studio visit. You will be notified of the studio visit schedule before Thursday.

Join the Auburn University Department of Art & Art History for the 2026 Roslyn Brock Stern Lecture: “Gordon Parks: A Choice of Weapons.” 📷

We are excited to welcome Michal Raz-Russo, curator of photography and Director of Programs at The Gordon Parks Foundation, for a conversation exploring the powerful work and lasting legacy of American photographer Gordon Parks.

The lecture will highlight Parks’ photography in Alabama, including his groundbreaking 1956 LIFE photo essay, The Restraints: Open and Hidden, which documented the everyday lives of African American families near Mobile.

Bridging the gap between art and science 🎨🔬

Recently, Auburn Art & Art History visited the classrooms of Dr. John Fronimos Auburn University Department of Geosciences and Dr. Yang Yang Auburn Forestry, Wildlife and Environment to lead workshops in drawing from observation.

Drawing Professor Lauren Woods and our Department of Art & Art History Student Ambassadors introduced observational drawing as a form of embodied cognition to deepen learning by making. Through exercises utilizing gesture, line, shape, and form, students practiced recording, analyzing, and revising drawings created of scientific specimens related to their respective fields.

Join us for a lecture with art historian Dr. Kathryn Shields, Associate Provost/Associate Academic Dean at Guilford College and co-author of Gateways to Art, a widely used textbook for art appreciation.

Today, Dr. Shields visited a section of ARTS 1510: Looking at Art: Approaches to Interpretation currently reading Gateways to Art to discuss image permissions and The Ones that Got Away: artworks she has wanted to include in editions of Gateways to Art but couldn't, and the complexities of reproducing artwork images.

Meet Collin Crowder '25, BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in painting. This September, Collin begins the MFA, Painting program at Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Collin's professor and mentor at Auburn, Professor Wendy DesChene, says, "This achievement reflects years of hard work, creative growth, and dedication to the practice. We are incredibly proud to have been part of Collin's journey at Auburn and grateful to have watched Collin's work evolve in our program. Congratulations on this well-deserved accomplishment. Meet recent BFA in Studio Art graduate Christine Pham, who graduated this spring with a concentration in photography, and a double major in Environmental Design.

At Auburn, studio art students work closely with professors as they develop their portfolios. We asked Christine's Senior Project professor, Visiting Assistant Professor Tianquitao Chen, to tell us more about Christine's project:

"Christine created her beautiful senior project to explore her family history, Vietnamese cultural heritage, and complex personal identity. She demonstrated a passion for tangible materiality and interdisciplinary exploration in the production process of her project. Christine’s conceptual strength and technical versatility in art and design equip her to engage with complex challenges through curiosity, observation, and contextual awareness."
