Motherhood. Identity. And... the occasional impending meteor crash? ☄️

Auburn University Department of English professor Maria Kuznetsova is bringing the everyday and the extraordinary together in fiction projects that range from life in the Deep South to a haunted Alabama neighborhood filled with ghosts, vampires, time machines and cursed oak trees.

Her work has appeared in nationally recognized publications like The Yale Review, Slate.com and The Georgia Review, and her short fiction was selected for The Pushcart Prize's 2026 anthology. She's also the fiction editor of the Southern Humanities Review.

Now, Kuznetsova has earned a 2027 fellowship from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, supporting the development of her latest projects and further research into the Alabama communities and landscapes that inspire her storytelling.

As director of communications and marketing for Visit Auburn-Opelika, Cat Bobo '15 helps showcase everything that makes Auburn-Opelika special, leading campaigns that reach millions each year.

Her commitment to community extends beyond her career through her involvement with the Southeast Tourism Society, Alabama Leadership Initiative and Children's of Alabama's Committee for the Future.

And her impact doesn't stop there! From launching the AO Art Showcase to organizing a fundraiser for pediatric cancer research inspired by her family's own journey, Cat is using her passion for community to make a difference.

Now, she's being celebrated as one of the Auburn Alumni Association's 20 Under 40 honorees. Congratulations, Cat! 🧡💙

How did a musical about an 18th-century founding father become one of Broadway's biggest cultural phenomena?

With its hip-hop soundtrack, diverse cast and modern storytelling, Hamilton brought American history to life in a way audiences had never experienced quite like this before.

But according to Auburn University's Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Auburn University Theatre & Dance professor Chase Bringardner, the show's success is rooted in a much longer tradition of musical theatre exploring American identity.

From Oklahoma! to South Pacific to Hamilton, Bringardner explores how Broadway has helped generations of audiences connect with history, understand the people who shaped it and reflect on what it means to be American.

For Amanda Shapiro, service isn't just something she does. It's who she is.

As a double major in the Auburn University Social Work Program and human development and family science in the Auburn University College of Human Sciences, Amanda is turning her passion for helping others into a future filled with purpose.

Whether she's helping young people with disabilities build confidence and friendships through Expressions of a BraveHeart or giving her time at CARE Humane Society, she believes even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.

And thanks to scholarship support, Amanda can make the most of her Auburn experience, embracing opportunities to serve, lead and learn while preparing for a career dedicated to uplifting others.

Ever wonder what goes into making a city more accessible and connected?

Auburn graduate student Roonak Soleimani is getting a firsthand look through her work with the City of Auburn, AL - City Government, from studying walkability to researching housing and zoning decisions.

This fall, she even presented her research on walkability at the Deep South Planning Conference, hosted by the Alabama Chapter of the American Planning Association (ALAPA) and the Mississippi Chapter of the American Planning Association.

As a student in the Auburn University Master of Community Planning program, Roonak is building the skills to pursue a career in urban and community planning, where she hopes to help create safer, more accessible and sustainable communities.

The College of Liberal Arts is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Matt Wood, a beloved colleague, educator and musician who shared his talents and passion for music with the Auburn community for 19 years.

The Music Department is deeply saddened at the passing of Dr. Matt Wood, Associate Professor of Trombone. Dr. Wood served the department for 19 years; he was an incredible musician, a wonderful colleague, and a good friend. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
