Did you know that many creative writers say visual art inspires their work? 🎨

The Jule recently held our first ekphrastic writing workshop for Auburn undergraduate writers of all majors! Exploring the vibrant connections between the visual arts and forms of creative writing—poetry, prose and creative nonfiction—museum education staff guided students to think creatively and deeply about works of art on display in our "Color Without Rules" exhibition, currently on view at The Jule.

The workshop was part of our inaugural Jule Museum Award for Creative Writing, the winner of which will receive $250, publication in Auburn Circle, and the opportunity to read their work at our Celebration of Art and Creative Writing on October 15, co-hosted with Southern Humanities Review.

As artists, collectors and audiences gather this week for the renowned Santa Fe Indian Market, The Jule is preparing to welcome one of today's exciting contemporary Indigenous artists to Auburn for the fall semester. Here's a preview.

"Jontay Kahm: Personified Existence" is on view Aug. 18 to Dec. 6. Guest-curated by Nancy Strickland Chavis, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, the exhibition presents works that explore identity, representation, and personal expression. His distinctive visual language is informed by fashion, culture and lived experience.

Just days before the exhibition opens, Kahm joins five other designers for the SWAIA Native Fashion Show on Aug. 16. At the museum, Auburn audiences join a broader national conversation about contemporary Native art and design.
