Established in 1922, Samford University's Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing is a nationally recognized leader in nursing education, practice and service. Due to the strength of its programs and faculty, it has twice been designated a Center of Excellence by the National League of Nursing. Over the past 88 years, more than 5,000 nurses have graduated from the school and are practicing not only in Alabama, but throughout the United States and the world. The vision and passion that legendary nurse Ida V. Moffett instilled into the School of Nursing is deeply and forever etched in its foundation and its graduates. Moffett's vision, four major pillars serve as the foundation for the school– academic excellence, compassion, caring, and service. Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing offers tremendous advantages and opportunities for those who wish to pursue a career in nursing. Our academic programs include a variety of degree options at both the baccalaureate and doctoral levels, including an option in nurse anesthesia and numerous online programs. Foundational to our academic programs are our outstanding faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and comprehensive clinical sites and resources. From disaster simulations to inpatient acute care, students participate in extensive clinical experiences in more than 1,320 sites in 37 states. Students also regularly engage in medical missions and study abroad opportunities in places like Ecuador, Honduras, Haiti and Peru. As a part of Samford's College of Health Sciences, Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing students regularly engage in interprofessional education, uniquely preparing them to excel in today's team-based health care environment. Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP): What's the difference?

🩺 FNP: Focuses on primary care, preventive care and managing acute and chronic conditions for patients of all ages.

🧠 PMHNP: Specializes in mental healthcare, including psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, medication management and treatment across the lifespan.

32 students. Nine hours of hands-on training. One step closer to advanced clinical practice!

Our Nurse Anesthesia Class of 2028 put eight weeks of classroom instruction and lab practice into action during a regional anesthesia training experience.

From ultrasound scanning to simulated nerve blocks and epidural techniques, students strengthened their skills with guidance from faculty, alumni and practicing nurse anesthetists.

Nursing alumni from near and far gathered for the chapter's fall event for fellowship, dinner and a tour of our Simulation Center. We were grateful for the opportunity to reconnect, share updates and celebrate the Samford nursing community.

Before stepping into clinicals, our undergraduate nursing students received their scrubs, celebrating a milestone that brings them one step closer to patient care.
