New apps are helping people identify what’s trilling/scuttling/rustling/slithering around a given area. 🐍 🐞

But not all emerging tech emerges equally, which is why biologist Julie Allen and an international working group developed a set of recommendations to ensure trustworthy biodiversity monitoring data. Their nine suggestions were published earlier this month in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Virginia Tech has been named one of the country’s top universities for invention patents.💡

Recent patents include innovative work from Webster Santos in the Virginia Tech Department of Chemistry. Santos' research focuses on new treatments for a range of diseases linked to abnormal immune or cell signaling, including autoimmune disorders, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and certain lung or fibrotic conditions.
