As part of Humanities Week 2026, Virginia Tech welcomed Scott Simon, American journalist, author, and longtime host of NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday, to the Lyric Theatre on Oct. 20 for his keynote address, “The Responsibilities of Being American.”

Simon led a discussion and Q&A exploring the complexities of American history, the ideals and contradictions that have shaped the nation, and the responsibilities we share in its future.
