Be inspired by four students' stories as they share how this unique opportunity has enabled them to reach their educational, professional, and personal goals!

The CREATE program provides full-time employees working in South Carolina schools with full financial support toward their bachelor's degree.

This weekend, the School of Education at the College of Charleston 🍎 celebrated its scholarship donors and recipients at our annual Scholarship Brunch. We are grateful beyond words for the support of our donors whose generosity has opened doors of opportunity for our students. It is inspiring to see our students taking strides through those doors, working to become the passionate educators that our school communities need.

A special thanks to our speakers - Kay Ciganovic, Cameron Grier, and Veronica Vereen - for sharing their stories and insights. Events like this are an important reminder that the catalyst for education is believing in another's potential! ⭐

Last week, the School of Education at the College of Charleston was pleased to welcome guest author, journalist, and speaker Elaine Weiss to our campus. She met with faculty, staff, students, and community members to share insights from her book, Spell Freedom, documenting the unsung influence of citizenship schools across the South during the Civil Rights Movement.

Her visit culminated in a book talk guided by the Director of the Center for the Study of Slavery in Charleston and professor emeritus of history at the College, Dr. Bernard Powers. Weiss' research illuminates the assiduous efforts of local educators, advocates, and leaders in the movement, including Septima Clark, Esau Jenkins, and Bernice Robinson. Their work stresses the crucial link between education and citizenship to actualize change, an important message for our current and future educators in the School of Education.

We are so grateful for Elaine Weiss' time, research, and wisdom and for all of our community members who joined us last week!
