Capstone Internship Spotlight: Hayden Wells

Hayden Wells spent his summer completing his capstone internship with Samford University Athletics Football, working closely with the coaching staff and assisting with the safeties. From working on the field during practice and helping the defensive staff break down film to coaching and recruiting future prospects at prospect camps, Hayden has gained valuable hands-on experience throughout his time with the program. With Pete Hanna Stadium and Sullivan-Cooney Field House serving as the backdrop to his summer, Hayden has embraced the opportunity to be part of the Bulldogs’ program. He’s enjoyed his time at Samford and hopes to stick around for the season as the Bulldogs pursue another SoCon title. As the sign behind him says, Hayden is all in for Samford.🎓🔦🏈

Cora Watkins is spending her summer with Kustom Entertainment as an Events intern for the 30th anniversary of the Country Stampede Festival in Kansas City. Cora has gained experience in marketing, social media content, and event operations. She has gotten to see the behind the scenes work that it takes to produce a large-scale event. Cora is excited about finishing her last semester to then pursue a career in operations and events! 🎓🔦🏟

Capstone Internship Spotlight: Braden Walter

Braden Walter has spent this summer as an operations intern with Top Gun Events in the Kansas City Metro area. Braden has been able to gain valuable experience in how events are planned and executed. He has also worked as a Tournament Director which he says allowed him to learn the basics of leading and managing others. Braden will be continuing his education in the fall at Avila University and will be working as a Graduate Assistant in the athletics office.🎓🔦⚾

Capstone Internship Spotlight: McKenna Szorc

McKenna had an incredible summer interning at Soldier Field in Chicago through Legends Global! She has been working directly with the Director of Events and Booking on concert production and major event logistics, gaining hands-on experience coordinating events with over 60,000+ attendees. From building service tunnel diagrams for a USA v. Germany soccer match to creating outreach slideshows for potential venue clients, McKenna has gotten a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run one of the country's most legendary venues. She looks forward to launching her career in live events and sports entertainment upon completion of her internship!🎓🔦🏟

Capstone Internship Spotlight: Logan Sumner

Logan Sumner has been spending his summer working with Ballparks of America as a sport management/operations intern. In that role, he helped prepare player suites and lockers, assist in home run derbies, different skills competitions, scoreboard/announcing, and the opening ceremonies. Logan also got to be a part of the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Classic; a tournament that Ballparks of America puts on and hosts 60+ teams from different countries around the world. 🎓🔦⚾

Capstone Internship Spotlight: Maya Sands

Maya Sands is spending her summer capstone internship with the The MAC (Missouri Athletic Center) in Columbia, Missouri, where she's gaining hands-on experience in recreation and facility management. As an Assistant Manager, Maya helps coordinate staff schedules, oversee daily operations, organize youth volleyball leagues, create promotional materials, and assist with special events at the Wilson's Beach Club Pool. One of Maya's favorite parts of her internship has been coaching a Summer League Volleyball team, where she teaches young athletes the fundamentals of the game while helping them build confidence and teamwork. Through her internship, Maya has gained valuable experience in event coordination, leadership, customer service, and youth programming. 🎓🔦🏐

Capstone Internship Spotlight: Brett Rush

Brett Rush received lots of hands on experience through his internship at Columbia Parks and Recreation this summer. Brett has assisted in a variety of different activities in the his internship, such as youth camps, basketball tournaments, golf leagues, community events, adaptive programs, and facility operations. Brett has gained exposure to various aspects of the parks, recreation, and sport industry. Brett explained that he had been given the chance to work with knowledgeable people and develop leadership and customer service skills. He strongly recommended that internship to other students of PRST who wish to gain practical experience and career options in recreation and sport management.🎓🔦🌳

Capstone Internship Spotlight: Kate Ortbals

Kate Ortbals has been immersing herself in the FIFA World Cup environment this summer through her internship with Sporting Kansas City. From attending the Fan Festival soft opening with her coworkers to working England's open practice at Swope Soccer Field, as well as Colombia, Ghana, Tunisia, and Austria's training sessions at Sporting Park Stadium, she has gained valuable hands-on experience. On top of that, she was busy with the World Cup Watch Party events at Sporting Park Stadium, working with vendors and serving in guest services to help create a great fan experience.🎓🔦⚽
