As we wrap up the spring semester, we want to take a moment to brag on our incredible Parks, Recreation, Sport and Tourism seniors!

Before graduation, every student completes a capstone internship; an opportunity to take everything they’ve learned in the classroom and put it into action in real‑world settings. This year, our seniors contributed more than 27,000 hours across the industry. That’s 27,000 hours of learning, leading, problem‑solving, and growing as future professionals.

We are so grateful to the organizations that opened their doors, mentored our students, and helped launch the next generation of leaders in parks, recreation, sport, and tourism. Your investment truly matters.

Capstone Internship Spotlight: Joseph Rossetti

Joseph is spending the end of his spring and the beginning of his summer in Everett, Washington interning with The Washington Wolfpack, a professional arena football team. Joseph is getting valuable experience in this internship. He has gotten experience in game day operations, field setup, promotions, ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and special projects, just to name a few. The biggest positive Joe has gotten so far has been the relationships he's built. Joe said "by working in an organization with so few employees, I'm really gaining an honest look at just how much work goes into the reality of running a professional sports organization." Joe is excited for what this internship will continue to teach him. He is also looking forward to his visitation assignment where he will be able to learn what other potential opportunities are available to him. 🎓🔦🏈

Capstone Internship Spotlight: William Vena

William Vena is working as a Student Manager of Gameday Operations for the Mizzou Softball team this spring semester. William’s internship consists of working with the donors, preparing batting cages and suites, as well as ensuring everything is ready before gametime. He also can be found gathering scouting information about other SEC players and teams. William is really enjoying learning everything that goes into making game days run smoothly! 🎓🔦🥎

Capstone Internship Spotlight: Gavyn Simmons

Gavyn is completing his capstone internship with Mizzou Softball as a Student Manager – Operations Intern! Throughout his internship, Gavyn has gained valuable hands-on experience supporting the day-to-day operations of the program. On game days, he primarily helps manage the donor suite while also assisting the team with setup duties, including preparing the batting cages and other operational tasks.

In addition, Gavyn plays an important role behind the scenes by documenting inventory and compiling team statistics, helping keep the program organized and running smoothly. His internship with Mizzou Softball has provided him with meaningful experience in collegiate athletics operations and event management.🎓🔦🥎

Billy LaPonte is spending his spring semester at JC Parks. Throughout his internship, Billy has been gaining hands-on experience in youth sports operations by helping with scheduling, registration, and event coordination. He’s worked with platforms like TeamSideline, RecTrac, and Excel while also assisting with setting up for events such as the Girls Jr. NBA League. Billy is extremely grateful for the opportunity to intern with Jefferson City Parks and Recreation and is excited about everything he’s learned so far! 🎓🔦🥇

Alex Fitzgerald is spending his spring with Mizzou Softball gaining valuable

softball by handling daily logistics, assisting with administrative tasks, and
interacting and engaging with donors and premium suite guests. He has built skills
in leadership, project coordination, and adaptability, which has led to multiple daily
responsibilities. Alex is excited to carry the skills and connections he has made into

Ryan is making the most of his internship in Softball Operations with Mizzou Softball this season. Working behind the scenes in softball operations, Ryan has gained hands-on experience with game day logistics, preparing donor packages, and assisting with team travel and equipment coordination. His role has allowed him to see how much detail it takes to run a Division 1 Program while enhancing the fan and donor experience at the games. Ryan plans to build on this experience and to continue to grow his connections as he continues pursuing a career in sports operations and event management.🎓🔦🥎
