Meet SGT Ryne “RJ” Hughey (Rj Hughey), a USC SRNA from the DNAP Class of 2028 who previously served as a Infantryman in the U.S. Army for 6 years, including a deployment to Iraq.

Inspired to serve after witnessing the events of 9/11 as a middle schooler, RJ enlisted just weeks after his 17th birthday. Today, the lessons he learned through service: remaining calm amid uncertain, trusting his training, and showing up for others when it matters most, continue to guide him as a SRNA. WOW, Gamecock family… you SHOWED UP! 🥹🍼❤️

What started as a student-led initiative turned into an incredible display of generosity from our entire Kay and C. Edward Floyd, M.D. School of Medicine community! Our USC Nurse Anesthesia Baby Supplies Drive benefiting Mom2Momz has officially wrapped up, and the final donation count speaks for itself! 👏

🍼 Over 1,500 diapers and pull-ups

💛 60 packs of wipes

🍼 6 cans of formula

And that’s just the beginning! Thanks to your generosity, we also collected:

✨ Bottles, breastfeeding essentials (including a breast pump!), nursing supplies, and postpartum support items

✨ A car seat, 3 bassinets, a crib, 2 baby scales, and a baby monitor

✨ Changing pads, bathing essentials, and bedding

✨ Baby, toddler, and maternity clothing, shoes, children’s books, toys, and SO much more!

Every single item represents an opportunity to support a mother, baby, or family in our community. And THAT is what makes this so special. ❤️

A HUGE thank-you to everyone who donated, spread the word, and helped make this drive such a success. We’re especially proud of our Class of 2029 SRNA who played a major role to bring this initiative to life!

Over the next several weeks, we’re excited to welcome 135 prospective students to campus as they interview for one of 47 spots in our next DNAP cohort!

Our current students know firsthand the excitement, nerves, and anticipation that come with interview day, so they wanted to share a few words of encouragement and advice for those preparing to take this next step. ❤️

To each of our candidates: we know how much hard work, dedication and sacrifice it has taken to get to this point. We’re incredibly grateful that you’ve chosen to consider Kay and C. Meet CPT MacKenzie Grigsby (Mackenzie Rowe Grigsby), a USC SRNA from the DNAP Class of 2028 serving as a Critical Care Nurse with the U.S. Army. Since 2017, MacKenzie has served in support of Operation Spartan Shield. In November, she will be promoted to Major. 🫡

Meet TSgt Dalton Hughes (Dalton Hughes), a USC SRNA from the DNAP Class of 2028 serving as a Mu*****ns Systems Specialist with the U.S. Air Force - SC Air National Guard. Since 2016, Dalton has served in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Noble Eagle.

Our USC DNAP program came together for an in-town tailgate filled with family, friends, food, and plenty of Gamecock spirit! We loved welcoming the people who cheer our students on through every late night, long clinical day, and milestone along the way.

And the perfect ending? Watching our Gamecocks take down the Florida Gators! Forever to Thee! 🤙🥳👏

A weekend of research, connection, learning, and a whole lot of state pride. 💙 Our USC DNAP students showed up in a BIG way at the 2026 SCANA Annual Meeting in Charleston, SC over the weekend!

🧠 Two DNAP candidate groups took the podium to present their research, sharing their work and findings with anesthesia professionals from across the state.

📊 All of our project groups displayed their research posters, sparking conversations, questions, and opportunities to share the work happening within our program. Congratulations to Michelle Edgar, Madeline Uenking, and Ashley Whitt for winning 3rd place in the annual research poster competition! 🥉

💼 Exhibitors, including CRNA employers, connected with our students to share career opportunities, recruitment information, and what’s ahead after graduation.

📚 Students also took advantage of educational sessions throughout the meeting, continuing to learn alongside CRNAs, SRNAs and RNs from across South Carolina.

🏛️ And as the gavel was passed to the new SCANA President, Dr. Blake Frazier, our students received a message worth carrying with them: “We need you. We need your ideas, your energy, and we need your leadership.” 📣 A reminder that becoming a CRNA isn’t the finish line; it’s the beginning of a new chapter and an opportunity to show up for the profession.

❤️ And, of course, no state-wide gathering would be complete without a quick USC NA Alumni photo!
