This is the official page for the UCA School of Communication.

We offer BA/BS degrees and minors in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations and Writing, Rhetoric, and Info Design.🐻 The School of Communication offers majors and minors in communication, journalism, public relations and writing. We are the home to three student organizations: Public Relations Student Society of America, Society of Professional Journalists, and Debate and Forensics.

💜😻 Happy National Cat Day! Looks like the cats beat the dogs this year! Better luck next year, pooches.

Today, we are celebrating the kitties of our SoC students.

Scarlett Polk, a Writing, Rhetoric, and Info Design major, sent us photos of her four felines: Tiger (who loves to be brushed), Astra (who loves being held and hugged), Maple (who loves to play fetch), and Beauty (who is an old gal who loves to destroy things).

Rachel Freer, who minors in Communication, sent in Yoda, whom she has had since she was sixteen, when she moved to Arkansas from Michigan after being adopted.

Jocelyn Vega, a senior Communication major, has two kitties that helped her get her degree. Meet Elio and Ophelia (Feef).

Mila Lendermon, a Public Relations major, has the prestigious Sir Covington James, a mischievous tabby for whom pictures do not do justice.

Finally, Maddison Hamilton, a Communication major and Public Relations minor, sent in Chandler and Joey, two FRIENDS (ha, get it?), who appear to be very close by the look of their photo.

SoC's Dr. Nelle Bedner was nominated by the UCA Women's Soccer team player Brityn Pavatt as a Most Valuable Professor! This honor is given by an upperclassman to a professor who had an impact on their life! Congratulations Nelle!

School of Communication Lecturer Carmen Edington took part in the Float the Flame Relay to support Special Olympics Arkansas!

The CAHSS Float the Fame Team "Float On, Give Strong" wishes to express appreciation to everyone who supported them for the brand new Float the Flame Relay to support Special Olympics Arkansas! Organized by the Dr. Sherry Skaggs' Police & Society Class, the event was a huge success! Float the Flame Relay raised over $5,600 for the amazing athletes of Special Olympics Arkansas! Fundraising for Team "Float on, Give Strong" was led by Criminology Student Zoe Gallup, who was presented the Fundraising Award for the event. Team Floaters included Professor Sherry Skaggs, UCA Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Anthropology, Associate Professor Bailey Fairbanks, UCA Department of Government, Public Service, and International Studies, Professor Taine Duncan, UCA Philosophy and Religious Studies, and Lecturer Carmen Edington, UCA School of Communication. We are excited to see even more teams float the flame again next year!

💜📰🗞SoC Journalism students enjoyed a tour of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette / ArkansasOnline.com in Little Rock, where they saw the ins and outs of the newspaper's production process. Opportunities like this help majors understand all aspects of journalistic practice, including what goes into the final results!

A fitting post to close out Comm Week -- a few inspirational words from our Artist in Residence, David Litt. Communication, in all its forms, is how we make an impact on the world. Each of our students represents the future. They embody the messages we wish to share and will use their communication skills to make a difference!
