The Department of Physical Therapy at UCA offers a PhD in Physical Therapy, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and a credentialed Residency in Pediatric Physical Therapy Program. The UCA Department of Physical Therapy began graduating students in 1972 as the first PT Program in the state of Arkansas . As a member of the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, the Department of Physical Therapy is chaired by Dr. Kevin Garrison, PT, PhD.

Congratulations to Dr. Misty Booth on her retirement in May 2027 when she celebrates 21 years as a UCA faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy. Dr. Booth is an alumnus of the UCA PT Class of 1984 and was a clinician for 22 years at Arkansas Children’s Hospital where her pediatric practice focused on spasticity management and she served as a clinical instructor and SCCE. Dr. Booth returned to UCA in 2006 as the Director of Clinical Education and the Pediatric Residency. She has truly touched the lives of countless children and families, students and colleagues over her career by working in both the clinic and academia. Dr. Booth is known for her positive style of mentoring others with a strength in harmony. She is able to guide students in the clinic as they grow into practitioners while also leading clinical instructors who volunteer their time and expertise. Dr. Booth has also helped shape DPT clinical education at UCA while engaging in national clinical education initiatives. Dr. Booth has been a friend, mentor and colleague and will be greatly missed. It is a pleasure to work with Dr. Booth and we wish her the best as she prepares for a wonderful retirement on the horizon!!

Students from DPT classes of 2028 and 2029 welcomed undergraduate learners from UCA Pre-PT club for our first Anatomy Outreach Program of Fall 2026! Undergraduate students interested in becoming PTs were shown some skills our DPT students have learned in the Physical Therapy Center and got to jump right in and get hands-on with real human donor specimens in the Gross Anatomy Lab. We have high school students scheduled for visits later this Fall and next Spring. If you are interested in bringing a group of students to our Anatomy Outreach Program, contact Caleigh Martin at [email protected].

Last Saturday we had the opportunity of meeting the wonderful people who support our students! It was a great afternoon of chili, co****le, and fun! Shoutout to the PT club for planning this event!

The first years have had a lot of fun in Clinical Foundations lab the last few weeks! They have learned a lot! Just to name a few things they have learned: ascend/descend curbs with a wheelchair, car transfers, wheelchair measurement, assistive device prescription, and gait training! 🩼
