The Office of Financial Aid is hosting a webinar next Thursday, November 5th at 6pm where we will go over some of the major changes to student financial aid that went into effect this year. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act resulted in several changes to federal student aid that are impacting our OSU students. If you have any students who you know have been struggling or worried about the changes, please encourage them to join us for this webinar. Nov 11: Veterans Day observed
Nov 13: Last day to withdraw from a fall course (no refunds available)
Nov 13: Last day to change the grading basis of a fll course (by noon)
Nov 16: Winter priority registration begins

2027 Commencement participation eligibility
Students who graduated or will graduate between summer 2026 and summer 2027 will be invited to participate in the 2027 Commencement ceremony.
• Baccalaureate degree candidates graduating in summer 2026, fall 2026, winter 2027, spring 2027, and summer 2027 will be invited to participate in the 2027 Commencement ceremony.
• Masters & doctoral candidates who have completed their degree requirements by the spring 2027 deadline or at the end of summer 2027 will be invited to participate in the 2027 Commencement ceremony.
Only seniors with at least 135 earned and posted credits by the end of winter 2027 term (graduating between summer 2026 through summer 2027) can participate. No exceptions.

What is happening at OSU???

Susan Bernardin, director of the School of Language, Culture, and Society, was awarded the Federico Eguíluz Award at the REWEST International Conference in American Literary and Cultural West held at University of the Basque Country (EHU), Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. The award honors the impact and legacy of Federico Eguíluz, the first Full Professor of North American Literature at the University of Basque Country and is recognized as a foundational figure in Spain for the field of American Studies and Western American/Chicano/a literatures.

Assistant Professor of Anthropology Molly Carney recently published a paper in the Journal of Archaeological Method and Theory exploring the colonial and ideological origins of food security and food sovereignty frameworks as they are used by archaeologists. By synthesizing 1,600 years of paleoethnobotanical data from the Pend Oreille Valley, the piece shows how coordinated labor, landscape stewardship, and intergenerational knowledge sustained past Indigenous food systems across climatic and social change.

An essay written by Professor of Anthropology Emily Yates-Doerr, titled "Recipes for Change," was published in the second print issue of the magazine Science Politics. The special issue, titled "Food Forward," focuses on the social science of food systems. It includes a foreword by Marion Nestle and eleven essays about food, including the one written by Dr. Yates-Doerr.
