Congratulations, Michelle! You are the 2026 recipient of the Burton W. Gorman Teaching Award. We are very proud of your innovations in teaching, and this is well-deserved recognition. Dr. Greene's BRIDGE Program, as implemented in EDUC L-405/505, exemplifies the award's innovative and airing spirit and criteria. From Summer 2025 through Spring 2026, Dr. Greene used a technology-enhanced hybrid Virtual Exchange to embed global learning and reimagine an English as a New Language and literacy methods course. This cross-border collaboration required students to connect global literacy issues to local classroom practice. Her approach was deep and demanding. She asked students in México and Indiana to co-analyze texts, develop Context Briefs, and produce joint presentations, making their interactions meaningful. As Dr. Yoder argued, "In doing so, she ensures that global competence is not peripheral but foundational to professional preparation."

On Saturday, June 6, we gathered at Kheprw’s Community Building Center to celebrate the well-deserved retirement of Dr. Jim Scheurich.

Staff, faculty, and former students came together to honor Dr. Scheurich’s incredible impact. Former students shared heartfelt stories, Dr. Lasana Kazembe presented a gift from the School of Education, and cohorts gathered for photos while reflecting on Jim’s legacy.

The evening was filled with remembrance, gratitude, and celebration. Most importantly, it reminded us that while Dr. Scheurich is retiring, his commitment to urban education remains steadfast. His knowledge, expertise, and teachings will continue to reverberate throughout the School of Education and the communities he has long advocated for.

Thank you, Dr. Scheurich, for everything you have done for our school, our students, and our community. We wish you the very best in your well-deserved retirement. The mission is still ongoing, and we thank you for paving the way for us to follow!

What started as a weather delay turned into an opportunity for learning, reflection, and community. Yesterday, the group visited the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture and toured the new IU Capital Campus in D.C. before continuing our journey.

Special thanks to Dean Tambra O. Jackson for making the connection, and to IU Capital Campus and Don DeMaria for the warm hospitality and support.
