ICYMI: Two new parking lots were constructed over the summer and are now open. The new yellow-zoned Lot 89, east of Downs Residence Hall at the corner of 18th Street and Naismith Drive, has 173 spaces available for student parking.

A new addition to the red-zoned Lot 34, next to Price Computing Center on Sunnyside Avenue, has 209 spaces for faculty and staff parking. In addition, all spaces in Lot 117 east of Watkins Memorial Health Center have been changed to blue permit parking.

Additional color zone changes include the following:

▪ In Lot 34, south of Price Computing Center, 29 red stalls changed to yellow and 10 red stalls changed to blue.
▪ In Lot 62, east of Price Computing Center, 55 red stalls changed to yellow and were combined with Lot 61. The combined lot is now entirely yellow.
▪ In Lot 101, east of Templin, 19 red stalls changed to green.
▪ In Lot 111, adjacent to GSP and Corbin residence halls, more than 20 green stalls have been added.

Last year, Lots 94 and 92 east of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium were permanently closed to accommodate stadium renovations and Gateway District construction. Students with yellow permits can use the added yellow parking in Lots 89 and 61.

KU employees and the Lawrence community should anticipate heavy traffic around the Lawrence campus on Thursday and Friday during KU Housing & Residence Life’s busiest move-in days for its residence halls.

Traffic around Daisy Hill is expected to be heaviest between 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The most frequented routes will be along the following streets:

▪ Bob Billings Parkway/15th Street
▪ Clinton Parkway/23rd Street
▪ Naismith Drive north of 19th Street
▪ 11th, 14th and 19th streets between Massachusetts and Iowa streets

The following streets in West Campus, as well as the Lied Center parking lot, are also along move-in routes:

▪ Crestline Drive
▪ Becker Drive
▪ Constant Avenue
▪ Irving Hill Road

The sidewalk along Crescent Road in front of Lindley and Ritchie halls has reopened to pedestrian traffic as crews finished waterproofing and foundation work along the north side of Lindley. However, the sidewalk across the street shut down last week as construction ramps up on the KU Entrepreneurship Hub. Pedestrians are reminded to follow the detour signs for the designated pathway along Crescent Road's south sidewalk and not walk in the street.

Changes to vehicle traffic have also occurred. Crews fenced in the sidewalk and section of Naismith Drive west of The Hub site. Along Naismith from University Drive to Crescent, access will continue to be provided to driveways and fraternity and sorority parking lots. However, that section of road is closed to through traffic, which includes vehicles traveling south along Naismith Drive and westbound traffic on Crescent turning north on Naismith. Eastbound traffic on Crescent will still be able to turn south onto Naismith.

The sidewalk and road closures are expected to last through the duration of the construction project, which will be about a year.

Justice Duncan, storeroom clerk with KU Operations, and Eli Hodge, detective with the KU Police Department, were selected as KU July 2026 Employees of the Month.

Duncan’s team described him as dependable, approachable and always willing to step in when someone needs support, and Hodge's peers noted his ability to remain focused and calm in “tough situations,” allowing him to help the community in numerous cases.

Road work at West Campus Road and 11th Street is ongoing and is expected to last through Friday. At some point this week, a section of West Campus Road between 11th Street and Stratford Road will be closed for one day, though the specific date is yet to be determined. During that time, detour traffic will be rerouted via West Hills Parkway and Stratford Road.

KU has acquired a new tool, TidyUp, to help instructors manage digital course materials and streamline the effort to ensure compliance with digital accessibility requirements.

When courses in Canvas are updated semester after semester, they can become cluttered. It can be common to have duplicated, unused or extraneous files that grow in number.

TidyUp helps keep Canvas course sites manageable by providing an easy method to scan each course with a centralized view of files and content, allowing instructors to quickly identify:

🔹Unused, outdated and duplicated content.
🔹Remove course clutter safely and efficiently.
🔹Archive and delete files in bulk, if necessary.
🔹Save storage space.

Cleaning up and removing unneeded Canvas content also helps instructors reduce their digital accessibility remediation efforts, allowing them to focus only on those documents they currently plan to use for their courses.

KU Lawrence and Edwards units seeking to hire a Temporary Unclassified Professional Staff employee should work with Human Resources to determine whether the position is a one-time need or provides recurring, intermittent or seasonal support, so that the appropriate classification of Intermittent Temporary Worker can be assigned.

Under the new structure, only temporary positions classified as intermittent or seasonal may extend beyond the initial 12-month assignment. The 999-hour limit will continue to apply to all temporary employees.

This change does not apply to student positions or to temporary employees hired through an external temporary agency.

Throughout the summer, Human Resources has worked closely with units and UPS temporary employees to support the transition.

As shared in a July 1 email from KU Travel Services, the One KU University Business Travel Policy has been approved and published in the Policy Library. The new policy aligned the Lawrence and Edwards campuses and KU Medical Center's existing travel policies, requirements and procedures to ensure consistency and best practices across all campuses. It also ensures KU policy aligns with the State of Kansas and federal requirements.

Those who plan to travel or book travel for someone else should review the recently approved policy and changes.

Travelers who do not follow the new policy or associated procedures may not be reimbursed or may be required to reimburse the university for prepaid expenses, be restricted from future travel, and be subject to other disciplinary action.

Starting Thursday, the westbound lane of Crescent Road will be closed between West Campus Road and Naismith Drive. The eastbound lane will remain open, as will the sidewalk on the northside of Crescent. Work is expected to be completed by July 31.

A planned detour will follow northbound West Campus Road, westbound University Drive and southbound Naismith Drive.
