Exciting new project in the works 🔬

Bringing together patients, caregivers, health care providers and researchers across multiple disciplines, a new UK Markey Cancer Center project aims to improve conversations about cancer clinical trial participation.

Supported by a three-year, $845,461 National Cancer Institute grant, the collaborative team from University of Kentucky College of Public Health, UK College of Medicine, University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences and University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information will develop an interactive, game-based educational activity designed to help patients better understand clinical trials and prepare for meaningful conversations about participation.

🏆 A major milestone in supporting the people who care for Kentucky.

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine and UK HealthCare have earned Gold recognition from the American Medical Association’s Joy in Medicine Health System Recognition Program — the program’s highest distinction for organizations advancing physician well-being. UK is one of just 21 organizations nationwide to earn Gold recognition and the only medical school in the Southeastern Conference to receive the designation.

This achievement reflects a shared commitment to strengthening workplace culture, supporting leaders and teams, improving clinical workflows and creating an environment where physicians and advanced practice providers can thrive. 💙

What a weekend to be a Wildcat! 💙🏈

Alumni Reunion Weekend brought the UK College of Medicine community together to celebrate old friendships, reconnect with classmates and make new memories. With an incredible win for the Kentucky Wildcats football team and a strong sense of camaraderie throughout the College, the weekend was a reminder that the bonds we build here last long after graduation.

Thank you to all the alumni who came back to campus and helped make this weekend one to remember. No matter how much time passes, you will always have a home at the UK College of Medicine!

🍂 Falling into Foundations, Creepin’ into Cardio, Easin’ into ECM & Readying for Residency! 🎃

A Bowling Green campus tradition since 2018, this annual fall celebration brings students from every year together to mark where they are in their medical school journey — from Foundations and Cardio to ECM and, for our fourth-years, the road to residency.

What started as a celebration of the inaugural class finishing their first course has grown into a tradition that celebrates the milestones, friendships and hard work that make the medical school experience so special. 🩺🍁

From the delivery room to a remote island. 🩺🏝️

Shout out to fourth year OB-GYN resident, Sharonda Cox, MD, and her premier on the CBS show "Survivor" where she plays a larger than life game as a castaway navigating alliances, challenges and the unknown for the chance at winning a million dollars!

Her residency experience may have helped prepare her for the island — from long shifts and little sleep to navigating uncertainty — but she found that one of the most important skills she brought with her was something she uses every day in medicine: listening.

“Sometimes you need to listen to truly understand rather than listen to respond,” Cox shared.

Her time on the island also gave her a new perspective on her work as a physician. Today, she tries to be more present in the moment — whether she is helping a woman through an amazing delivery or supporting a patient through a difficult time.

Dr. Cox will complete her OB-GYN residency next summer before staying at UK for three additional years of maternal-fetal medicine fellowship training, where she will focus on high-risk obstetrics. She may have survived the island, but her biggest adventure is still ahead. 💙
